New Snake Setup

Taceas

USW = UB313
With the 13 new hatchlings coming at once and having containers set everywhere, I was forced to go out and buy a bookshelf in order to place all of my Sterilite containers on.

I think it worked out pretty well. Got this thing at Wal-mart for like $30 and set it up in about an hour by myself. Thankfully it all tears apart when I want it to, as it's not glued together.

It's pretty sturdy, however it does come with a wall brace which I cannot use. Thanks to living in an old 1850's home with thick baseboards, the back of the cabinet does not touch the wall.

Here's a picture of it, sorry that it's so dark. For some reason the camera's flash isn't as bright as usual. But you get the general idea of what it looks like and how I've organized it.

Nice setup! I'm thinking about getting another corn too. You people are right, you can't stop at one! You get one and you start thinking about another and another and another etc. etc. etc.

Anyway nice setup. What do you have in the viv.s on the right??

Re:

LOL, no you can't stop with just one. I had 10 before my eggs hatched, and now I'm up to 23. =P

There are two 10 gallon aquariums on the right. In the one closest to the corner on the far side, is my adult male snow corn. He's in temporary housing at the moment until I can get this used 30 gallon tank cleaned and upstairs. In the one with all of the green leaves closest to the camera, is my male anole that I use for scenting prey items. He's cute, so I decided to keep him once he wasn't required anymore. =P

And over on the left side of the bookshelf is my adult male bearded dragon, Dundee.

If you want to know anything else, just fire away. =)

LOL oh yeah...f.e.:what are those plastic thingy's above you spraybottle and substrate?? LOL I just like to ask question....

Re:

Those are 96 oz clear plastic deli-cups. They've got holes pre-punched in them for ventilation. I use them for separate feeding containers and other uses as well.

They've come in very handy with a temporary place for new baby snakes, or for when putting on mite medication, or soaking to help get off a retained shed.

Just a heads up, if those containers are the sterilite containers from Walmart I had my first escape ever from those damn containers.

I think the main problem with them is that they can make you think you snapped them shut when they are still unsnapped.

Walmart also sells a sterilight with a handle-top/side locks that is pretty freeking cool. Its a dark silver top.

I'd never go anything non-locking-mechanism

great setup though, good luck!

Amen

I agree with the Sterilite comments. I use them exclusively, but I would highly recommend binder clips on the sides.

This might be a stupid question, but how do you heat the containers? I know that people use flexwatt on their racks, but when they are stacked like that, do you just go by the ambient room temp. Just asking because I am thinking of doing that with the new ones I am getting. Right now mine are all in 20 long aquariums, except my BP he has a home made wooden viv. I want to utilize space and have some type of rack with the sterilites, (that way I can fit more snakes in my snake room), I just want to do things right, and your idea looks good.

PS I know it is summer now and heat isn't an issue, but I am looking toward fall and winter time.:)

Re:

Well, these Sterilite containers do lock on the ends. I haven't had any problem with them so far. If anything, I can't ever get them unlocked to open the containers. =P

I've lost more snakes out of aquariums with heavy metal lids than I have with these plastic containers. Don't ask me why that is.

As for heating, this particular room never has a heat problem year-round. It's consistently around 82 all year round. Unless it gets deathly hot and sunny out, then I have to fan some of the AC air in. =)
