Not sure on the bulb, I think the party bulb kind are pretty hot. How are you measuring temps?

I don't use bulbs so I have no way of answering these kinds of questions.
But I too would also like to know what you're using to monitor temps because I don't see anything in the picture.
Breeding season is actually right now and babies will be starting around June but they can be born as late as december.
Also if he's an 07 those hides are way too big for him, they like to have the secure comfort of their hides pressing up against their sides, you can try packing them with more bedding, putting toliet paper tubes inside of those hides etc.

Ahh didn't know that was an issue, I bought the one so it would be big enough for him later, but I'l.l do something.

I just bought a digital thermometer with a probe from pet smart today, not keeping it in the cage.

Well what are the temps reading?
I'm a firm believer that the UTH is enough heat. Cause it sure don't get that cold here ;)

Without the light on I was reading about 90 on the warm side and 83 on the cool side. I think I might just save the light for when its winter. But I would like a light to make the tank look more appealing. What about hooking up a rheostat to the uth and the light, think I would be able to get them low enough to keep the temps in range?

Wow that's too hot.
83 should be the hot side temp and the cool side should be in the 70's.
You definatley need to hook them up to a temp control device asap.

Just took the temp again and it was about 80 under the warm hide and 72 under the cool one, he was hiding up in the tree. I'm in the 3rd floor attic room sso the temp fluctuates a lot. Guess I will go pick up a temp control.

oh well,

I am a new owner too and I would not feed live mouse. I dont know... it is kind of sick, unless you absolutely have to. I would not like to see a mouse suffer or snake get bitten badly.
But my Olie feeds well on frozen ones. He is so docile and easy going, even when feeding he does not strike and strangle them, I think an adult mouse would hurt him.
