I figured I would introduce myself, I am Danny. I am new to this forum and new to corns but have been keeping snakes for about 15 years. I have always kept and breed reticulated and burmese pythons but now only keep them as pets since most people only want them because they think its cool to have a big snake and soon realize that they get HUGE and sometimes agressive (retics) and the work involved in keeping them is a lot more than they expected and dont want them anymore. I am going to be trying a bateater ( burm/retic cross) project because they are difficult to produce, have only about 2 or 3 good eggs if you can produce them and I really want one and don't want to spend 5k on a snake. I have had a few corns as rescues over the years but never for more than a few months to make sure they were healthy eating and then finding homes for them. I decided to start getting a few corns because I like them,my daughter (10) wants some and when I am in the snake room I don't let her help with the big guys for obvious reasons and she wants to be part of the action. That and the idea of having snakes that don't need 7# rabbits and 8' enclosures and occasionally send me to get stitches is appealing to me. I have learned a lot just lurking around the forum and look forward to learning more.

Welcome aboard, Danny. I'll defend anyone's right to keep even venomous, venomoid, hybrids, and big nasties like retics. Though most folks shouldn't, and by most, I mean almost everyone, but legislation is almost never needed. But, anyway, welcome to the forums! If you have a question about any colubrid, python or boa, there is someone -if not many folks, that can chat you up about the topic at hand.

Welcome to the forums!! Sounds like you've got a ton of experience to bring to the table and I wish you tons of luck with your projects!! That will be so interesting to see!!

Hey Danny! :wavey:

Looking forward to getting to know you...AND seeing photos of the snake room! Sounds awesome, and how great that your little daughter has become a herper, too.

Hey Danny!! Welcome to the forum! Can't wait to see pics of your collection (we are all major pic fans here!) lol...

It's great you want to get some of the more smaller size snakes..they are really great pets..the big boys like the retics and boas...ehh..not so much for me..heh..But it is cool that you have so much experience and a great love for reptiles :0)

Hope to see ya around..

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. I do have some pics in my photo area on my profile. My daughter is 10 and has been helping me with snakes since she could walk and I got her her first snake (baby cali king) for her 3rd b-day.The 2 gopher snakes in the pics are hers and she has raised them (with my help of course) since hatchlings and for the last 3 years has feed them, cleaned the enclosures every week and monitors the temps with the guidelines i told her to follow. I am really glad she has a genuine love for herps and that it wasn't just a phase, she has even been bitten a few times and just laughs it off. I am currently building a new snakeroom (I am moving and setting it up before I actually do move in) but I have been taking pics so far and should have a nice progression series from start to finish.

Hey danny welcome to the forums. Hope the corns work out for you and your daughter, They are alot of fun. Later

Thanks !! I picked up 3 more corns today. (proven) 1.0 ultramel , (proven) 0.1 amel - upperkeys outcross (het anery, hypo and bloodred) and 0.1 normal -upperkeys outcross (het amel, anery, hypo and bloodred). I was told the amel double clutched this year so i am going to give her a year off and let her fatten up. The normal is a clutchmate of the amel but was underweight last season so she is a virgin but looks to be a good size now so I am going to pair her up with the ultramel in the spring. I added a corns album in my profile with pics.
