New viv - substrate question

ivenner

Father of the Snakist
Well Buster is growing up fast on the Munson plan, and we have just bought a new viv for him - photos will follow once he is in it and we have it set up as we want. Currently he is in his little viv (transparent all around) inside his new one to get him used to the new space, whilst still in his familiar surroundings.

My question though is; he is currently on kitchen paper in his little viv, but I think this will look a little odd inside the big one. Also it would be more prone to moving around as it would be a lot of strips of the stuff.

Would now be a good time to get him on Aspen?

Also would the panel go with overhead heat bulb for this set-up, or stick with the underfloor mat that we currenty use?

Can I have people's views and/or experiences.

Cheers

Ian

Is the UTH you use now big enough for the new viv? I'd stick with that, or an appropriate-sized one.

I keep babies on aspen. Right now I have some snakes on paper towels. They burrow under and end up in their hides under the paper towels. They just REALLY want to be buried. Then, if they poop, you have to take out everything to clean. Aspen lets you spot clean much faster.

Well Buster is very happy in his new viv. We went for aspen and it is so much easier to maintain than when we were on kitchen paper, and he loves to burrow through it as well.

Also following the move to the 36 inch viv, he has grown massively and to us now seems huge (given he ws the size of a boot lace when we got him!), I must post new photos after his next shed.

Cheers

Ian
