Hello everyone. I'm new to the cornsnake hobby, and as of yesterday became the proud owner of a beautiful baby snow corn. I have her (don't know how to tell the sex for sure), in a 10 gallon tank with reptile bark, good sized water dish, heat/spot lamp, and a few hiding spots. She seems to love her half coconut shell the most. Anyways, I had a question regarding heating: is the lamp enough, or will i need a heating pad also? And if so, are there different pads available? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!:wavey:

I'd recommend an under tank heater over a heat lamp if I had the choice. UTH's are easier to control the temps. It would be best to use a thermostat or dimmer switch with the UTH. I'm afraid of using heat lamps for two reasons, they 'tend' to dry out the tank too much and I just flat out don't trust them as far as a fire hazard. Don't know why, just don't trust 'em!

Welcome to the board, lots of great help from people around here. If you don't have it already, I'd recommend owning Kathy Love's Cornsnake Manual . . . it's an invaluable resource for many of your questions and concerns.

I agree. Under the tank heats work very nicey. Ever since I started using them, the temperature in my cages have stayed at a perfect temp- never changing more than a few degrees.
good luck:cheers:
