No Mice!

Hey everyone,

There was only one pet store in my town that sold pinkies... it burned down so I am going to order some pinkies off of the net. I was wondering if my corn will be ok. I havn't fed him for two weeks now. I used to feed him a pinkie every 5 days. My snake is about 14-18 inches long. Will he be aight to wait until my pinkies come in the mail?

Thanks

yes ur snake will be fine they can go for long peroids with out eating but that doesnt mean u can starve them hope u get ur mice soon :)

a healthy corn will sometimes go months without eating. they're oppurtunist when it comes to eating, and eats when food happens by. As buddy said, this doesn't mean you should starve them, but he should be fine until you get your pinkies.

He'll be fine.

I had a hatchling that refused to eat until he was three months old! He did start eventually (after much coaxing and trying umpteen differents ways/things of feeding him). He was pretty small and skinny but he survived.

At 18 inches long mind you, I'd have thought pinkies might be a bit small for him though?

General rule of thumb I've always used it to keep the food size around the same as the widest point of the girth of the snake.

You want to keep food items 1.5 times the size of the largest portion of the body. This will allow you to see a nice sized lump after ingestion. The size of the lump will diminish as the snake grows in length and girth. When you don't see a lump anymore, you want to move to the next sized food item.

Also, Snakes can go long periods of time with out food, but you don't want to push the envelope. Most breeders agree that 6 weeks without food is cause for alarm unless the snake is in Brumation. So, for the couple of days more that it will require you to find a supplier, order your mice, and get them, your snake will be fine. But, don't wait too long to get this done.

Juviniles need to eat more often than adults, and even though they CAN go for a while without eatiunbg, its not healthy. My advice is to spend the extra $10 or whatever it is to have your shipment sent out next day and get him fed soon. Make sure there is plenty of fresh clean water available at all times in the meantime.

most orders are sent overnight because of the Frozen part. Here in Big Cheese Rodents are here in TX and because of that, they send my orders out second day. They may do the same thing to Arizona too.

She'll definately be fine waiting for the mice to arrive in the mail, especially since they deliver them overnight.

Pets mart will not sell anything that eats rodents. They think its mean. I called and game them a hard time about it and said I would come in and get a rat to feed to a boa and the threatend to call the Humane society for cruelty to animals. It was funny. Why not just end the stinky dirty rats missery early :shrugs:

Must be the person...or the local petsmart...ours sells snakes...and frozen rodents...not that I would buy EITHER from them...

Once a Petco employee tried to tell me that it was cruel to feed fancy mice to snakes, but that it was perfectly ethical to feed them the feeder mice. I asked what the difference was, and she said it is because feeder mice all are missing eyes, limbs, have cancer etc. I looked and it was true. So disgusting, like I'm going to feed my animals crappy rodents with huge tumors on them. They ought to be fined for allowing those mice to breed, and I told her so. They threw me out of the store.
