no more corn snake

Before I got Phoenix (a sun-glow amel) I knew nothing about snakes.

She was given to me as a gift by someone who didn't really know what they were doing either. All this persons animals have died in the 1 and a half years I had Phoenix in my care. During my desperate pursuit for information on how to look after this animal which I was scared of and knew nothing about I came across this site and have spent many many hours reading. I've learned almost everything I know from here.

My love for snakes has grown considerably and my interests seemed to have grown outside of cornsnakes to more 'interesting' things. During all the reading, attending expos, speaking to people in the hobby, etc. I came to the decision to sell Phoenix to make space for bigger better things. I thought I knew what I liked. I thought she was boring.

Thing is I regret it now. She was the one that sparked my interest in the hobby. My first. She had difficult beginnings and I watched her grow from a little baby to around 80cm at present. She never once bit me. Never had a bad shed. Gave me no problems and forgave the mistakes I made in the beginning.

I feel like I abandoned her something. I worry about how she's being looked after. I actually miss my snake, and am going to get another corn snake. Don't think it's boring anymore. :headbang:

I only hope that the person who took her looks after her well and that she gets him as excited about this hobby as I am. I'm gonna have another corn one day. One day soon probably. I'm sorry Phoenix.

Ouch must be a bad feeling. You don't have a way of contacting the person that took her to check everything is ok? Or even try to offer them a similar corn for your Phoenix?
We all make mistakes and feel bad about them... But mistakes are there to learn from. You won't make that one again and there"s a good chance Phoenix is being well cared for and happy.

thanks guys- lesson learned

I could - but I'd be pretty if upset if I was contacted by someone I purchased an animal from after the fact. I won't do that. I was just upset myself when I posted this I guess.

Oh, yeah... I've been there. I understand what you're going through, but we just learn from our mistakes and go on. I know I'll never make that mistake again.

neither will I. Thats for sure

To be honest, I have on occasion done that. Just a little email with "how's he doing these days, everything ok, if any more questions feel free to contact me" sort of thing. But maybe circumstances are way different of course.

yeah - when you put it like that its good -

I imagined it like: "Hey you better be looking after MY snake which you payed for".
Okay not so bad but yeah - It is actually the guys first snake - so I'm hoping he calls with questions. Wouldn't hurt to send that mail.

I do this with every single snake I sell. Sometimes the new owner does have questions but feels like they are silly questions & is afraid to call you to ask. Sometimes they lose your phone number/email address.

I've certainly never had anyone upset & many of them have shown me pics & tell me how great their new snake is.

I also do some dog rescue work & contact new families a couple weeks after adoption then again at least once per year (usually around Christmas). Some I never hear from again, but most respond, sometimes with pictures. It's nice to see the dogs happy in their new homes.
