Hey all

Normaly once the eyes have turned clear again being blue it normaly means that the snake will shed in about 2 days. Well my aztec normal has had clear eyes now for a week and I still cant find the shed. The snake never really dulls when she goes into shed, so its hard to tell if it has shed or not. She lives with a creamsicle. Both snakes are about 36inchs. Could ether of the snakes eaten the shed or is it just taking a lond time to come of the snake???

Well, for the first time in years I have had that happen too. My Bloodred male sheds every 4 - 5 weeks.End of November I find him very dull with blue eyes. He clears up but does not shed his skin. I started to feed him and end of December he goes into another shed cycle. This time he sheds his skin. Strange huh? I have no explanation for you.
 
I don't think a week is that out of the ordinary. It could be that with the winter, his metabolism is slower and it's just taking longer than usual.
 
I agree. I have a pine snake that takes ages to shed once the eyes have cleared.

She still hasn't shed, but mabey its because of the winter. Mabey she wont shed at all like Marcel said.

Not a stupid question...

I think many new snake owners wonder that. I work for a vet, and have had MANY people ask me that very question.

It's a fun field to work in. I thought about going back to school to become a vet, then decided I didn't want to go to school for that long. I decided to go back to school to get my vet tech license, though. I figured that since I enjoy what I do, I may as well get paid more for it...

ONE MORE SEMESTER TO GO!!!!!! YEA!!!

(I'll be glad when school is over. I look forward to having a normal life again. I'm sure my family is looking forward to a normal life again, as well.)
 
yeah, sounds good.

I was also thinking about Herpology (sp?) or marine biology.

Do you just work with reptiles then or also other animals???

Glad your snake finally shed for you! I have noticed this problem too and it always seems to conincide with the cooler weather so maybe thats a factor? Just one of those things I guess...

I'm going back to college too...to study vet. nursing! I can't wait!
 
Are all you snakes shedding like this???

No, only two have 'strange' sheds. One of them (sid) is usually a bad shedder anyway but Pretzel is pretty good. His last shed finally came off about 2 weeks after turning from blue to clear. I have noticed with Pretzel that this seems to happen whenever the weather turns cooler. the other snakes are still quite young so I don't have many years on them to make comparisons yet.

I have done alot of work experience in a vet surgery, at farms and have lab experience from my zoology degree but this will be my first step towards a 'proper' vet job! I can't wait! I'm also going to do a horse massage thereapy course this June. Some lady from the US is coming over to teach us, it should be quite interesting!
 
I wish you LOTS of luck! I used to work in human surgery before switching to working for a vet. I mostly take care of surgery at our clinic (or at least I did before school got to where I can't work much).

It's funny that you mention horse massage therapy. I've been seriously thinking about taking some massage therapy classes after I graduate this May. Let me know how your course goes!
 
Will do, I'm really looking forward to it! It's getting to be quite a big thing in the horse industry so I'm reckoning it will be a plus point to any potential employees! :D
