Hi all!

I've always wanted a snake and it was a tough choice between ball python and corn but in the end, the corn won out! Currently I have a 40g tank that has an 8 watt UTH + dimmer for heat, hides, branches, a big water bowl and foliage with newspaper on gthe bottom. I wanna switch to aspen when I'm sure that everything is running smoothly with the new addition. Speaking of which, I figured there isn't much of a diffence between small animal aspen and reptile aspen aside from how its shredded and the insane price difference. am I wrong?

I do plan on going to the Toronto Reptile Expo on November 10th and tracking down an adult, preferably female because I have the urge to add a Lola to my zoo. :) I make really good tips at my job so I have about $140 or so saved up right now and everything is gonna go towards the snake. so i figure i will have like $200 to spend. I'm really excited to branch off into this hobby, especially when hermit crabs are my area of expertise!

hello and welcome!! :)

this is a great site to learn about your new little friend!
and I'm gals to see that you got the Viv before the snake! lol

welcome again and feel free too ask any questions! :)

Another Canadian! They're taking over! ;)

Aspen is aspen, just be sure you don't use cedar or pine. As far as the cut goes, the reptile aspen is cut in such a way that it's a bit softer and fluffier than the chunky stuff, which makes it really easy for the snake to burrow in and make tunnels. But at the end of the day, they'll burrow in anything, so you can get the regular if you want, it's all the same.

$200 should get you a nice adult. Can't wait to see what you come home with :)

Invasion of the Canadians, mwuahahah! >:D

Oh I know very well not to use cedar or pine. ^.^ I don't let those anywhere near my animals. I'm glad I was right about the aspen at least. I saw a small bag of reptile aspen and for the same price I could get five times as much small animal aspen so I was like ughhhh.

As for the viv, if hermit crabs have taught me anything, it's to get the set up running and stable before adding anything live! I'm not picky about morphs, though I'd love to have a lavender. Out of my price range since I don't wanna raise a baby but I can dream lol!

Sounds like you have a great set up! I use CareFresh Color (pink) litter lol. They have all sorts of colors. Not sure if they have that in CN ??

Welcome!! can't wait to see pics of your new scalebaby!!

yep, we have carefresh here!
lol I love it for hatchlings, but not soo much for adults.

I find that the aspen holds together better then carefresh when soiled, and if it gets in your water dish, BYE BYE water! that stuff is Crazy absorbent!
lol not my fav' but I do use it.

and you'll have to post some photos of your crabbys!! in the general section! lol people post tones of other pets in there!
lol I love hermit crabs, adorable little dudes and dudettes, ;)

but we ofcourse wanna see your new baby once you get him/her!

Awesome! Can't wait for pics :)
Are you planning on getting a hatchling, a juvenile, or an adult? $200 will go a long way :) especially with younger corns.
I hope there's lots for you to choose from at the show!
