Not feeding

HE has always been an avid feeder always striking within seconds of placing the mice in the box, but as of the past two weeks he has refused to eat the rats. It is quite odd for him to do this I have had him for over a year. Could it be that its due to winter? He is about 3.5' long and 1 1/2 years old

You say he eats mice well but has refused the rats? If you're offering him rats now that is likely the reason. Corns will never be big enough to eat rats, so I do not recommend feeding them rats at any point, especially as a staple diet. It could be due to winter but if his cage is kept the same it shouldn't be a big deal, what are his temps like and how are you measuring them?

Sorry I used to feed him mice but he has been avidly feeding on rats for the past 6-7 months. I get him rat pups because they are large enough but yet not as active as mice at that age reducing the risk of attack.

I would switch him to frozen thawed mice. Rat pups are low in calcium and high in fat, so they are overall very unhealthy for a snake (causes calcium deficiencies and obesity). He may just be overweight and not want to eat. Either way, I would say that as long as he is not loosing weight, a few weeks without eating is going to be fine. Just offer him food once a week as normal.

I will offer him a slightly smaller MOUSE next week so that he is not having to eat something quite so large and may more readily take it. Thank you
