Not pregnant

I have 3 mice with 1 male and they are breeding nicely, but in another cage I have 1 male and 1 female she was pregnant when we first got her but all of her babies got eaten by another female which has now gone, the problem is that it has now been over 5 weeks since her and the male have been together and no sign of babies can anyone help, should I maybe put in another female or just let nature take its course, even if its a long one.

well, what I would do might not be the same as what someone else might do.... SO :) I would either get rid of those 2 and start fresh with another 4 or more likely I would get 2 bigger (by bigger I mean about 4-6 months old - so they are big enough to fight back) and put the 2 new females in with them. They will argue and squeel til they figure out how the new family group will work but then it will settle down and everything should work. I normally will just add 2 at a time if I have to add any because then it more than just one that they can gang up on. More chance of the argueing lasting a lot less time.

newly started mouse colonies can take up to 2 months before they get started breeding. I'd give them at least that much time before giving up on them.

ok well I have been out and got two more girls to put in with them so it might give the other girl a bit of competition, they are squabbling a bit but I am going to give them a little while on their own and see if they settle in ok, the only probs is the new ones are a little smaller.
