I am going to put UTH under "Fangs" viv, 3'x1'x1'.
So I guess I need a mat about 1'x1' or11"x11". Can I just set the tank on with out adhesives as the bottom of tank and stand both meet flatly?
I am going to build the rheostat per the designs posted here for temp control.
Is this all good????

#2: I am buying two more babies today and will be housing them in commercially made plastic vivs. The vivs are about 18" long so could I just use 1 UTH mat and some insulator (glass, slate, or ceramic tile) over mat and put them right beside each other giving them both 6" of UTH? This way I can use one rheostat and mat and two thermometers????
Any suggestions????
Need to know pretty quick as girlfriends coming and has a big itch on to get her Sunglow. Also I am having the new ones sexed if possible and getting another for my self, whats best to breed for good variate with Sunglows, another Sunglow???
 
you want to aim to cover no more than about a third of the floor space with the UTH. i cover less than that. Having a thermostat or rheostat is definately a good idea ;)

And yes with plastic tubes lots of people us one heat matt and put two or more tubes on it, saves money etc. Theres no need to insulate against the matts as long as they are regulated and monitored with a digi thermometer,. See if you know your temperatures are correct, you dont need to insulate against them, thats my two cents anyways

"Sunglow" as I understand it is not a seperate gene. It is amelanistic (sometimes with Hypo mixed in) that is line bred to lower the whites and accentuate the basic amel coloration. So, again based on my limited understanding, when breeding a sunglow you should think of it as an amel. Even if you bred it with another sunglow, you'd still likely get a bunch of more traditional amel hatchlings and some that exhibit the 'sunglow' characteristics.

Someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong!
 
If you're worried about Fangs viv being too close a fit over the heat mat, then put a couple of coasters or thin strips of wood under the corners of the viv to raise it up a little.
Some people prefer to have a little air flow between heat mat and tank, just a couple of millimeters should be fine.

As Tom said putting two 18inch tanks on one heat mat is absolutely fine, if you're covering about a third of the tanks bottom. I personally have a couple of 36 x 6 inch strips with three tubs on each, that are about 12 x18 inch and the heat strip covers 6 inches at the 12 inch end of each tank. Provided the mat is regulated and you get the temps stable your new little ones should thrive for you.

ok so with the sterilite tubs is it possible to cover the uth with a pice of tile or does it have to be glass, slate, or ceramic tile?
 
I dont understand why the tile is needed anyway? The tempurature of the heat mat isn't hot enough to melt the plastic, i used a UTH when my snake was in a plasic tub i just put a few layers of paper towels over the heat mat and then put the box on top of that. I tested the temps with a digital thermometer and they were right.
 
Tile is a good conductor and holds heat well and distrubutes it evenly.
It's not a must have but it certainly can help you.
