Okeetee vs. Abotts Okeetee

Anybody know the difference?

I've read that okeetees were originally caught at the Okeetee hunt club in SC. and are brighter/oranger/cleaner etc. than most normals and now okeetee is just used to describe that orange and bright look in captive breds.

What then is an Abbots okeetee and how does it differ from a plain old okeetee?

I really like the okeetee look in photos I've seen of adult snakes.

I'm considering getting an okeetee male because they look so cool and as a possible suitor for my female crimson. I don't know what the crimson is het for but I'm thinking that cross could be interesting.

Abbott's are a line bred Okeetee. They are called that for the thick black borders around the saddles. The line was started by Lee Abbott and from what I know his orginal stock came from Kathy Love. Bryan, Thanks for the information. I was wondering why they were called Abbots. I'll take a look at the one on Kathy Love's site. My crimson is still a baby so I don't want to get an adult since she won't need a suitor for a few years.

On my avatar U see an Abbots Okeetee , it is different from a "normal" okeetee by his fat black circles around the saddles .

I have pure locality Okeetees from the Okeetee Hunt club. I will have babies from them next spring if you're interested in pure line Okeetee's.

Mvervest, Thanks. That's a very nice looking snake in your avatar. I like that coloration with the bright orange contrasted with the black bordering the red.

I see a lot of normals that get a brownish tint or a smudged look. What I find attractive about the okeetees is the brightness like yours.

Here's a locality Okeetee, and yes, they do tend to get more melanin as they age. I think it's very pretty though. Here's the two females. You'll have to click on the Photobucket link. i tihnk that the stripe gene reduces the black pigmentation( notice how normal stripes have like no bliack?) SO i am not sure if it would be tiger striped, it would be cool if it was tho!.

Yes, His original stock is Love,but He has outcrossed with alot of locality Blood lines(some he has caught himself) over the many years that He has been breeding the okeetees.
In my opinion you can't find a more stunning Okeetee than an ABBOTTS.

Mine are all aztec or zigzag marked. It's a normally occuring pattern in the wild. I'm hoping I'll get some babies with them. Unfortunately.....no guarantees!

I have a pair of yearlings that are descendants of the original Okeetee stock from Kathy Love. A guy here in Maine, Doug Kranich, has line bred these guys for years. He purchased a pair from Kathy a long time ago and has produced some stunners over the years. I say they will give an Abbott's a run for their money anyday. These Okeetees are very intensely colored just like Abbott's. It just shows you what you can do with line breeding. What I think is the coolest thing is that they are het for absolutely nothing.
