Okeetees, Normals ?? . . Lowcountry SC Corns

Took these pictures at the Edisto Serpentarium last week. The first two
are some really beautiful Okeetees I kept trying to steal from them, but
they wouldn't let me get away with it.

There are a couple of normals, but the last two shots are of one corn that
I was really taken with. To me (and I'm not an expert by any means) it
looked like a Miami Phase. It sat in this one spot and wouldn't come out
for a better shot, but still good enough to get a close look at.
For all of you guys who know more about Corns than me. . . . is this a
off colored normal, or a Miami ? . . .reason for asking: These snakes are
all caught around Edisto Island, and are released back into the surrounding
area in late Sept. after the Serpentarium closes. Would be really odd for
them to have caught a Miami Phase in Edisto SC

That looks like a Miami to my untrained eyes as well (and a very good looking one at that!), but I'm sure somebody more educated will be along shortly to tell us we're wrong. :D

it does look a little miami-ish, but it's a bit orangey on the base color for one of the actual localities I think.

It does look Miami-ish, but I'm sure it's a coincidence--"Miami phase" corn snakes would be found in "Miami," Florida, right? :shrugs: Very nice snakes, anyway. Thanks for sharing. =)

your welcome.

I'm sure it's just a color variation of a normal from the area, and my
pictures really don't to any of these snakes justice, but that one had a very
light ground color and very shinny compared to the other normals in that
exhibit, or any others I've seen there in past years and it really looked
like a Miami. I kept going back over there the entire 3 hours we were at
the Serpentarium, hoping it would come out for a better shot, but he/she
wouldn't budge.
And that Okeetee in the first picture was absolutley beautiful. That's the
one I tried to talk them out of but they told me the didn't give away or sell
the snakes from the exhibits (which I didn't think they would, but I had to
try)

:D
