Well my corn snake (Gunther) died about a year or two ago (It might have been longer I can't remember). I use to be a pretty active member of this forum at the time I first got him (Changed name from Canadain Eh? because of incorrect spelling and I forgot my password). Anyway I notice the has gotten updated alot. But enough stalling about a year ago I woke up and went to check on little Gunter then I went to school (he was a year and a half old) I upgraded him to small fuzzies. The pet store didn't have any pinkies or small fuzzies for sale for about 2 weeks. The store said he would be fine. They were out of stock and on shortage. But when I came home I went to check on him I saw him with his jaw dislocated before I went to bed. I thouched him I knew he was dead. He didn't breathe nothing. I am guessing he died because of hunger because his jaw was dislocacted and looked like he was in the process of eating but there was no mouse and he was lifeless. I went to bed and I heard rustling. I even thought it was my imagination but he was surfing around his viv. I just layed down in bed and did nothing. The next morning I went and check on him and sure enough, he moved and wasn't in the same spot. His mouth was still wide open. I went to school and when I got home my dad had already put him in a box. I burried him. I don't know if that was a mistake about burrying and I never told anyone about this before. I wanted to post it on here but I just forgot. I am still sad that he died and wish I could have handled him more. I am wondering if that is normal also. But I guess he just wanted to live a bit long and have one more ride around is vivaurium.

Also no but I was thinking about another. But isn't it odd that he moved after he died? I am not mentaly challenged but he did move. How is that possible?
 
Not a clue, I just got mine a week ago, so I dont have any experience yet.

Now is a really good time to get one with all the hatchlings! It is taking me a lot of self restraint not to buy a bunch!
 
OOOoo (kind off topic), but I can't resist....when I was 17 I had a pair of zebra finches, the female aptly named Grace because the store kept her in a tiny cage so that she couldn't fly..so she would always crash into the perches.....and my fav. the male Gunther. They would pull strings off of the towel I had over the cage to make nests out of, and one day I came home after school only to find him hanging upside down!!
Poor guy got his foot wrapped up in a string. But the real sad part is that he lost all but two toes on his left foot as a result of that accident......

Must be something about that name?..
 
Not sure, but it might have been a nerve thing. I know dead cobra's can still open and shut their mouth when touched due to their nerve endings, and maybee it was something similar when your snake died.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Sorry for the loss anyway, and welcome back to the forum.
 
Something in your post jumped out at me as a possible cause for your problem. Is it correct that your snake was a year and a half old and you were just then switching from pinkies to small fuzzies? If so, your snake may have died from malnourishment and/or a calcium deficiency. Your snake should have been off pinkies for over a year and well into eating at least medium/large sized mice by then. My reasoning is twofold:

1- I can't even imagine you spending that much money every week to feed a 1.5 year old snake the amount of pinkies it would take to keep it satisfied. I have snakes not quite a year old that would probably need 10 at a time to fill them up.

2- Pinkies have less calcium ounce for ounce than larger mice, and I believe they are less nutritious. Even if you were stuffing him full of pinks, it may not have been enough to sustain him.

i also agree with scott, i have 2 corns that are almost a year old and they are taking medium size mice, one of them can even eat small adults. (hes a freak though friggin huge)that would be my geuss. :shrugs:
