I have two rubbermaid shoeboxes head to head. One for each hatchling. Would it work to put a heat pad, a mini, on tile then put a piece of tile over that and put one side of each shoebox on top of that? I don't want to put the shoeboxs directly on the heatpad because i'm afraid they might melt.
 
Sounds like a good idea to me. Just be sure to prop up the other end of your shoebox so that it sits level.
 
The heating element should have a rheostat to control the temperature.
If it gets hot enough to melt plastic, its far too hot for a shoebox-sized enclosure.
