One of the most difficult...

logic

things ever...
(from my experience with corns is...)

"not bothering your new hatchling for the first few days..."

I recently received my two new hatchlings on Thurs, and it has been exxxxxtremely difficult, not bothering them.

I have both on display rather than on a rack system, and watching them come out and explore makes it even worse... lol

The first is a new Blizzard...
and the second is a new Striped amel...

(both are from SMR... what an outstanding experience that was...!!!
Don, was very informative and was always available to answer questions...!!!)

I will be feeding them this evening for the first time, wish me luck...!!!

Sorry, I dont have any pics at the moment, waiting on a new cam, but I will post them to this theard as soon as I receive it...!!!!

I agree, that has to be the hardest thing to do! Good luck with your new babies. Stay strong...

I agree, its 2 days until i can pick up my snake and feels like an eternity, lol, then i have to go through letting the snake settle, haha. Good luck with your new hatchlings.

I know how you feel m8 i recently got to pick my Miami Cornsnake up for the first time and it was the first time i ever picked up a snake on my own period so i was really scared.

It was so brilliant holding him and i am at my fiancee's at the mo and my mum is looking after him and i am missing him like mad:)

Wait.....what? I read that you leave the Cornsnake alone for 3 days then you should only hold it for feeding and cleaning. They say you shouldn't hold them for 3 weeks. Is this true? You people are right I want to hold my corn sooooo bad!

Thanks for the support guys... it was not easy!!!!
Nonetheless, I finally made it through...

I held the blizzard on Sat for the first time... he is absolutely amazing....!!!!!
Is great how each snake is so unique and has his/her very own personality...!!!!

He is extremely confident and isn't bothered by people walking by, or even looking at him...
he just simply looks back at them and goes about his business...
Even when I turn on the light at night, he freezes for a moment, and then continues….
He is extremely calm...

Now the amel on the other hand is a handful...!!!
If she sees the light go on, you won’t see her for many hours….
She is allot more reclusive it seems; therefore, I gave her an extra two days and picked her up for the first time today... (after all - the blizzard was helping her, by keeping me occupied and stimulated... :grin01: )

Anyway, I can see that it is going to take some time for her to really calm down and trust me...

Some more good news to boot....

Both have eaten their first meals this evening... and are happily hiding and digesting their meals...!!!!

So far so good...!!!
I haven't had new hatchlings in so long that I forgot how much attention is required in the first few weeks....
helping them acclimate themselves and making sure everything is on the up and up... but then again, I've been called anal-retentive in the past...!!! :wavey:

Actually, you should wait approximately a week or so...
but if you have experience, you can deviate if from that a bit... in essence it comes down to the snake, its environment (i.e. the room you have it in, the temp, how many people are around, and all the variables related to that) and how much time is need for it to feel more secure and acclimated...
But a week is usually a good length of time...
