Only bites my daughter

I have a 2 month old and we've had her for 2 weeks, I handle her every day with no problems. When my step daughter came over she went to hold the snake and it bit her. She put her back in her cage. Later that night I took her out and then I put her into my daughter's hand the Snake was wrapped around my thumb and found my daughter's hand to strike at, all the time not bitting me.
I'm at a loss for the reason why and what I can do to stop this. Please help.
Thanks!

Do you have other pets she was handling before hand like a hamster/gerbil or another snake like a king ? Your snake was probably smelling something it did like (for dinner: mouse/hamster/gerbil) or something it didn't like, like a predator....only a guess though....

If the snake bites her again, don't just put it back in the cage right away. That only enforces bad behaviour.

Good point!

Also, you and your step daughter could try washing your hands with the same soap then you pick the snake up first and then let her handle it. You could also let your daughter wear rubber gloves during handle untill the bitting stops. Just a thought :shrugs:

Good Luck

The snake probably just isn't used to your daughter. Have her keep handling it like you did when you first got it. It'll eventually get used to her as well.

Thank you!

Thank you for all of the advice. I will try all of these and let you all know how it works.
Thanks again!

I have the same thing going on in my house! My nice sweet male corn ONLY bites my boyfriend. My cute cuddly hamsters ONLY bite my boyfriend. Even my inch and a half long baby water turtle ONLY bites my boyfriend. Very strange. Maybe our snakes are related. :roflmao:

I think from the aboved mentions things you will be fine...
but just to add one more thing... when you daughter handles the snake make certain she doesn't make any sudden movements.

From my experience with my newphews, my little butter would act very skittish, but it was due to thier confidence level. After they grained more experience handling the snake and snake became more used to them, everything fell into place.

foxykitty911...
That is crazy. My ex had a sugarglider that loved to bit and/or 'mark' me everytime I came over. Needless to say, I avoided handling him after awhile... lol...

Maybe they're trying to tell you something. :grin01:

She held pop, the snake, today

Thank you all. My step daughter held our snake for a few minutes today and no bitting, had her wash her hands and I kept my hand near the snake's head to keep our snake feeling comfortable, we will continue to have her gold the snake every time she's over.
Thank you for all the input and all of the helpful info on this site. :)
