Our first corn snake!

Jacklyn, our first corn snake, is beautiful! :) I believe that she is amelanistic, but I was wondering if she is a motley due to the spots that she does have. I don't know if you can tell this young or not. She was born in June.

*I think that I have attached three photos to this thread. If they do not show up, I have 20 photos in a photo album.

Thanks! I was dying to know as I have been researching, and have seen several amels like mine with a few spots (like mine! LOL) being listed as motleys. I didn't think that was right, but since I am COMPLETELY new, thought I would ask! LOL

Also, is there a good website on *corn* snake genetics? I have a major in equine science so am familiar with equine genetics, but do not know anything about snakes. I am just curious as to what gene makes certain types of snakes! Thanks!

Thank you. She is a joy! We've only had her for 6 weeks and are already looking at getting another one! LOL

Oh that's when the addiction kicks in!
I only have one, but I used to have MBK (mexican black kingsnake)...it escaped out of the cage for about....3 months now. I miss it..named Twilight.

One of my friends who got us hooked on snakes had a MBK. They are GORGEOUS! My husband wants a boa, but with what I have researched, we need to wait a bit and get experience FIRST. They don't sounds like inexperienced owner snakes.

I miss my MBK, I freaked out when it somehow, escaped the exo-terra...
I was at home alone that night, I took twilight out to handle it for bit then put it back in the viv then locked it....came home from work at that night, ended up missing.
Odd things happens...

Sorry to hear about Twilight escaping. I'm afraid if Jackie escaped, my husband would be sleeping in a hotel! LOL He is slowly getting use to her.

Haha, Im pretty sure that he would get used to it.
I've always thought about getting another corn snake, but
I ended up getting a tarantula..but it's pain in the butt to drive
to pet store every day to get food...Im just selling my tarantula
so I can work on to get another corn, but I hope I could find anyone
that who sells any kind with stripes or zigzag....
I had Ophion (ghost corn) for over a year now, and he's growing...
just started off mouse 2 days ago, ate up with no problem.

A tarantula... you are BRAVE!!! I would wind up killing a tarantula. they give me the willies! LOL Is that Ophion in as your avatar on here?

LOL, I loved spiders, they are beautiful creatures.
Yes, it is Ophion..
I got more pictures in my albums...and I have pictures of my tarantula if you are brave enough to look it up lol.

UGH! I don't hate all spiders, mainly just tarantulas. One of the navy bases that we lived on when I was growing up had tarantulas that would just be in the middle of the road and would be in our house. I was very young (around 5), and finding a big hairy spider in bed with you is NOT the way to a girl's heart!! We got a cat that took care of the inside spiders! LOL

I LOVE the photo of Ophion on the guitar! Is he named after the greek god?

Haha, that changes the whole story about you hate tarantula, I understand though lol.
Well, Ophion is named after greek meaning of serphant.
I thought the name was pretty cool, and fits him good.

Well, it is a unique and very cool sounding name. I TRIED to convince my kids to name Jackie something more unique, but Jacklyn it is! LOL My middle son, Wyatt (8), REALLY wanted her to be a boy (she's been probed) so that he could name it

*DRUM ROLL PLEASE*

Jake the Snake. *sigh* Where did I go wrong with that kid? LOL Thankfully, I get to name the next one! :)

haha, I love unique..believe me, I've sent over a week to figure what should I named it..

What kind of corn do you want to get next?

LOL... well there are a couple we are looking at. a pewter corn, a lavender corn, a charcoal (I think that is what she is called) corn, and, my favorite for his personality, looks solid white until you get up close and then you can see a slight hint of gold stripes. I have no idea what his coloring is called. He is the Daddy to our Jackie.

LOL... well, we are looking at a couple.

A pewter corn, a charcoal corn, a lavender corn, or, my favorite for his personality AND he is the Dad to our Jackie, a male that looks solid white until you get up close and then you can see a faint hint of gold stripes. I don't know what his coloring is called. I would love to have a motley sunglow... maybe in the future! :p
