This is Linus. He is a 10-year-old Beagle that my husband and I recently took in. (Like we need a 4th senior dog!)

He was in a neglectful situation, and my niece was advocating for him, and called me to see if we could take him.

His prior owners said he was urinating in the house, and they were going to take him to be euthanized. I went to meet him, and saw how stiffly he was moving. He is a very friendly, gentle soul, and we couldn't leave him there.

Of course, we took him to our vet right away, and found out he has arthritis in his hips and rear legs, and was eliminating in the house because it was painful for him to go down a flight of stairs to use the doggy door. We got his old vet records, and he hadn't been seen since 2009! He also had a mouthful of bad teeth, with advanced periodontal disease, and a heart arrhythmia (probably not helped by all the bacteria in his system).

So we got all his vaccinations up to date, long-term pain meds for the arthritis, baseline bloodwork, heartworm pills, and dental surgery to remove 11 teeth that were very loose.

He's really a wonderful dog, and I can't believe they were going to kill him rather than address his health issues.

He's fascinated with the snakes.

He slept for 2 days when he first got here.

Oh that's so sad. My 14 year old golden retriever would never even have thought of peeing in the house but as he got older and stiffer he did have an accident or two. Let me tell you, that was a LOT of urine to clean up. He eventually did have to be put down, but not because of incontinence!

I'm glad you took him in and I bet he'll give you plenty of years yet.

Thanks, ladies! So far, this "free" dog has cost us just under $600! But we knew that he needed "the works", and we don't regret any of it. He is such a sweet dog.
