So my girl shed a few weeks ago(I don't remember exactly) and I just now decided to start pairing her with my male. I've paired them twice and saw them lock up both times. I also found evidence as well. They did the dance and she did the little shiver thing that they do before locking up.

Now the question: Will a female ONLY copulate with a male if she is ovulating? I've tried to search for this info but I didn't know what to search for exactly. Thanks for any information!
 
I had a female do what I *thought* was the pre-ovulation shed about 4 weeks ago but every time I've placed a male in with her she freaks out. She is not ready. And if she's not ready she will do anything in her power to avoid the male.
 
I don't think that's an easy one to judge. Mostly, I'd say that females do not like to have anything to do with the male when not ovulating but I've had the opposite of that too.
I have a few females that will allow themselves to be bred no matter what time of day or year it is, without a fuss at all; which makes it hard to figure out their actual cycle.
 
Okay, that does help a lot. Considering that she is a virgin, I'd think she wouldn't breed so readily if she wasn't ovulating. Or at least that is how it seems.
 
I have noticed that last year my amel female lifted her tail to help out the male. She went from first lock to laying in 4weeks. This year i paired her earlier in the year. She wouldnt let him near her for 2 weeks then she allowed him to do the deed but didn't really do anything to help him out, and its taken much longer to get to her pre lay shed.
