can i use basic art acrylic paint in my snakes tank? should i seal it, and if so with what?

Yes you can. I think you can use most any type of paint, as long as it complete dry and no fumes.
As for a sealer, I think it would be better if you used something. I use a water base polyurethane, a few coat did the job.
