Where will he have gone? The lid was down on his viv, and I have no idea how he got out but I cant find him anywhere... theres no way he could have got outside none of the windows or doors are open, whats the place im likely to find him in?

Somewhere small, dark, warm and probably surprisingly close to his viv. Do a search for escapees and you will come up with loads of ideas and experiences of people find their snakes. Good luck and keep us posted :)

Should I be worried? will he come back when he needs to eat. Ill be especially carefully not to let him out the front door.

Just read on your other thread that you turned the UTH off. What temps are you getting at the min?
Also, I forgot to say in the first reply, have you thoroughly searched the viv? Under substrate and everything? If its a bit colder than he is used to he may of buried to keep warm??

He might come back, but he might not. Your best bet is to grab a flashlight and search late at night. Start at the viv and work out from there. Stay along the walls and check EVERYWHERE - even if it looks impossibly small. If the top was on the viv, that means there's a hole big enough for your snake to get out, so you might want to look at another setup.

Also, search for how to make a pinkie trap.

A few ways of finding your corn:
1. Place flour along door ways and parts of the rooms, if he crawls around at night, you should be able to see where he has travelled.
2. Get an empty plastic bottle, cut the top off, and invert it into the body of the bottle and tape it in place, put in a warm mouse (at night) and leave it there overnight, you will hopefully find him in the morning sat in the bottle with a full belly.
3. Put tape around the bottom of the walls, if he travels along them he will get stuck and hey presto, you will find him. Although I dont like the sound of this one as Iv heard some tapes are extremely difficult to remove from snakes.
4. Search everywhere and anywhere! Your corn isnt daft, and will try and seek heat, especially with the british winter approaching, he will more than likely remain in the house. Just be careful when lifting things though, just incase he is under there, the last thing you want is to injure him.
5. Be patient and dont give up.

Good luck :)

He still has his bulb on, the temp is the same as it has been for a few days. Hes 5ft long, theres no way I can miss him if hes under his substrate, ive checked it all thurroughly. I cant see how he could have got out either, theres no holes in it other than where the lid doesnt sit completely flat, but even then he'd have to lift it to get out... and its not like hes opened the glass doors on the front cos they are still closed.

I'll leave his viv open while im out, and have a good look for him later tonight. Cant believe this, its only been a couple of weeks, he hasnt escaped before :(

I feel really bad :(

Panic over, I found him... amazingly he was in the Viv, but under the water bowl have no idea how he managed to get under that, its flat on the bottom of the viv burried under the substrate and I'd imagine its quite cool aswell.

*steadies his pounding heart*

Oh I can see the next few years are gunna be fun :)

Sorry guys.

Glad you found him.

If he was under the waterbowl, he probably either doesn't like his hides or it's too hot. How are you measuring temps? Do you have a thermometer with a probe? What type and how many hides do you have?

Theres a couple of hides, and as I've said in a couple of other threads his temps are a bit of a mess. I plan on sorting that out today though. I've got to order a matstat which is why his UTH is off.

Hes just being heated with a bulb at the moment, and it is possibly running too hot, but this is the setup he was given to me with and hes been in it for a few years.

Personally I would scrap using the bulb. Get yourself a heat mat (think you said you already had one) and buy a habistat mat stat (around £27-£30), and hook it up to that. Thats the set up I have for each of my 2, and it keeps the temps spot on.

Yeap, Ordered my matstat off the internet today, not many reptile places where I live.. so I just gotta wait for it to come.

Glad you found him! I lost Choco in his viv once- I had some visitors and wanted to show him off, so I looked under his hide, under his moist hide, then started tearing the whole thing apart- finally found him _in_ the moist hide, duh. I also lost Lila once- looked in all her hides, sifted through the aspen, and then spotted her right in plain sight, curled on top of her branch in the vines...

Here's her viv and branch:

Here's where she was "hiding:"

Very nice pic nanci, her viv doesnt have a lid? is that normal? quite sure mine would be able to climb out.

Mine is still under his waterbowl, been there all day. Kinda unusual for him usually hes under the logs maybe its cos hes shed and hes feeling the heat a bit more. Cant wait til my mat stat arrives then at least I'll know that everything is as it should be.

As a side note, my Viv is quite dark, if I take the red bulb out is there anyway I can light it so that I can see him without causing him too much problem. I'm sure I read somewhere that normal lights can hurt his eyes.

Of course she has a lid- it was just off in that picture!

I've heard of people using those lights they use to mod computers with, for snakes. I have no idea how to set it up though- way over my head.
