Partial Shed

Hydroxy

New member
Hi,

I went away over Christmas and New Years and left my little corn at a holiday board. When I picked her up again on the 6th of jan she was fine, active and eating just fine (was fed on monday, due feed today). The people who looked after her for me are very experienced, having many corns themselves aswell as other snakes.

They told me that she shed on the 2nd of jan, but the tip of her tail still hasn't shed.
I've given her tail a warmish bath twice and let her run through a wet washcloth. I've also upped the humidity in her viv, but she still hasn't shed the tip.

I was just getting a bit worried that maybe it was causing her discomfort or even pain, as it must be tight on her tail.
Is there something else I can try to get the last bit shed or can I just wait til the next shed and hope she sheds it all then?

Thanks,

Linda

How long have you soaked her? I'd go 20-30 minutes and then see if you can rub it off starting at her body, moving to the tip, like you'd roll tape off something. If you leave it on, she will lose her tail tip.

Ohmigod, I don't want that to happen!

Thanks for the advice Nanci, I will try that and keep you posted.

So when you soak her, put her in a closed container with air holes (like her feeding bin!) in warm water- room temp, with a washcloth on the bottom, with the water about as deep as the snake, not over her back, but level, and then just let her sit a good 30 minutes, and then see if either she has shed the tail tip skin, or if not, if you can gently roll it off.

Thanks Nanci,

the 20min bath did wonders, she didn't shed it herself so I had to help her by rolling it off, but atleast now it is off!
And she was oh, so happy about taking a bath, lol - NOT :eatsmiley

She was thoroughly unimpressed with me for putting her in her feeding tub when it had water in it! And then not feeding her! haha

Thanks for the link on how you did Lila, will be very helpful next time if she doesn't shed completely!

Congratulations! Now double check her tonight or tomorrow when she is very dry, to make absolutely sure it is all off.
