Petco should not be allowed to have animals!

Yeah,

It always kills me to see the animals in petco. A while back they were carrying a bunch of green and supposedly bahama anoles. When I looked in the cage there were multiple dead ones on the ground. Also, they pack so many leopard geckos into their cages they are like on top of each other. But whatever, though I feel sorry for them I can't do anything about it, and don't buy from there except for certain supplies.

I will say that when it comes to selling live animals, it should be done at a store that is focused on animals and animals products, not at a WalMart (or other big clothing/food/hardware/etc store) where they have a pet section just because it can make a little money and it's convenient for shoppers. They should stick to dog and cat food and leave well enough alone. If it were more about an animal's well being and finding them all good homes and less about money (which is the reason these stores are open), then I would support the local gas station if they wanted to sell pets! Money is the bottom line. Cat food=$$ Cornsnake=$$ and from an corporate accounting perspective, they have the same value and disposability. A loss is a loss, whether animal or dried goods.

Which is why I support some of our local pet stores that are small enough to care about the animals, but are of course still profit driven. You can't stay open if you're not selling. The employees listen to my advice. I even took in frozen pinks for a baby corn to get it started eating because they don't sell f/t and the live pink was too big. They were so grateful and took my advice on the best time and the best way to offer it food. That baby is growing like a weed and eating anything they give it.

Wow, lots of negative Petco energy here.

I bought my Corn from Petco in McMinnville. turns out he had mites. When I went back they had removed all the corns and sanitized the tank, I haven't looked closely but I don't think the snakes have them anymore.

In addition the guy who helped me didn't seem very knowledgeable, but he didn't try to snow me over either. They now have a girl taking care of the reptiles, she is their "Reptile Specialist". After a bit of conversation with her I don't think she is an expert by any stretch, but neither am I and she did seem quite knowledgeable about the snakes.

Bottom line, my snake was basically healthy and as you all have read in my other posts is thriving. So when I am ready for another snake if I cant find a local breeder that can get me the morph I want I will not hesitate to go to my local Petco and look in on their stock.

it really depends on which location though
i worked at a big petstore chain here in canada (petland) and a lot of the people hired for fish and reptiles had no idea how to care for them, neither did the managers
but there were a few of us that were very concerned for the animals and made sure the customers knew what they were getting into, had the right infort=mation, and would refuse adoptions to people we saw unfit to care for the animal
