Pictures of my "incredible find"?

It's both of our snake, keeping Milk Snakes is not currently illegal in NH, but every is different, so we will keep him if we can get him to eat soon, otherwise I don't think we will.
We are twins and both keep snakes, although I own a majority, and I do almost all of the feeding, water dishes, cleaning, etc.. But he did find it, so that's why we will share. I will do the feeding, and he will share in caring for it by holding it, and loving it (the fun part).
Hey, I was kidding, really. Well, part of me was 'cause in MY house, my brothers and I would have been killing each other... Luckily, THEY don't like snakes! LOL.

Congrats then, to BOTH of you. Hope you can get it to eat... then we can see progression threads!!!

I assume being from Southern NH, you know about the reptile expo saturday, but if you don't, the New England Reptile Expo is this saturday, october 4th. I would recommend going if you love reptiles, which I assume you do.

Been looking forward to it all year :D.

I guess I'm gonna have to break out the boots again and go do some more field herping to see whats out there! Me and one of my buddies went out a lot this summer around the Exeter river area and we got pictures of some pretty cool stuff. Water snakes, lots of turtles, even an eastern box turtle but no milks I guess now is the time to go out looking for them :sidestep:

Wow, an Eastern Box Turtle, great find. Those are very rare finds in NH, but they might be slightly more common in southern NH. I don't think there are any in my area, and Milk Snakes are probably more common the further south you live as well.

Yeah we were psyched when we found that guy! he must have hated us cuz we were taking pictures of him for about an hour lol. He was right behind my buddies house too so were hopin that there might be more around.

yeah, if there were more, that would be incredible. There are so few of them left, they used to be much more common before habitat destruction forced the species out. If you happen to find more, you would be very fortunate. Also, if you have a large enough piece of property, It would be amazing to try to let the turtles breed there. You could keep it as some sort of sanctuary, that would be such a great thing to keep the species from becoming extinct in the area.

MANNNNNNNNNNN…I’M ENVIOUS!!! That is an awesome find. Like you Michael, I always dream of living down in Florida for the great variety of herps. I did live in AZ for a couple of years and I did have some sweet finds there. But to find something as beautiful as that milk around New England, IS incredible. Living only a half an hour from the NH border, where do you recommend for herping?

It depends on where you're at :D. I take it from your location you're in MA? I know there are some great spots in Londonderry NH just up 93 and there are some awesome locations further up in the Fremont Raymond area that I know of. If the weather is at all cooperative this weekend I think we're gonna try for one last field herping trip, not sure exactly where we'll be going but it should be fun

What an awesome find! Such a beautiful little one! I'm with Nanci on this... I'm beginning to hate the fact that I live in the West because I can't find herps like that! You eastern people have it made out there!

Jynx- I guess the herps are always greener on the other side.
When I used to live on the Phoenix/Glendale line, I caught all kinds of herps & arachnids. I really miss field herping in the Sonoran desert.

Yeah, it's funny to hear people say they wish they had the variety of reptiles we have here. Don't get me wrong, we have great wildlife, and the Milk Snake is as beautiful as any snake, but it was a very rare find. We have no Rat Snakes, King Snakes, Lizards, etc... But I do admire what we do have, and our fall foliage is amazing right now. All of the trees are yellow, red, orange, and green, but it's been to cold to go "herping" the past few days. By the way, thanks for all of the posts.
I purchased a Bloodred Corn Snake for my brother at the show this weekend, and in return said we would have to release the snake. I know so many people would keep him, and he is beautiful. But being so rare, I'm just happy to know I have a population near my house. We just moved in this winter so I hope to find more next year, and I don't want to take from the population.
I think it's the right thing to do, I already own so many beautiful snakes, so the real thrill was finding him. And if everyone kept them, we would no longer have the joy of finding the in the wild. I think only captive bred should be long term captives, it just doesn't seem right that because I found him, I should take away the future he had in the wild.
