Pine Branch in tank/viv

Hello,
This is my first post and I did look around a bit but dont see this anyplace. I have 4 corns... One pair Okee, and one pair normal corns from the Palm Beach area in FL. Anyway I understand that pine chips or shavings are not so good in the cage as bedding, but I wanted to give my corns somethig that looks good and is more like the enviroment they would live in. So I went hunting and found some nice pine branches, I cut them to fit and put them in the over at 250 deg and cooked them for a good hour and a half. Is this okay? I think its slash pine. The snake really loves it. He gos up al the time. But I dont want to do anything to hurt them so I wanted some feedback.

personally i use driftwood for my tanks. although my corns are small and don't have any wood in with them. i do have some plastic plants though (for assistance with shedding)

i bake my driftwood at 350 for 20 minutes.

sorry, i doubt i'm much help.

Aside from the fact that pine is a phenol containing plant, which is why pine is toxic, pine branches rot easily. Driftwood is both bleached and preserved from the sun and water, which makes driftwood a good choice. I personally use (not in my corns' vivs, but in my ATB's viv) sandblasted grapevine. If you did still want to use the pine branches that you collected, I would treat it with a couple of coats of sealer, like Thompson's water sealer that is used on decks. Let it dry and air out for a few days, but after treating the branches, the pine should not be as susceptible to rotting.
