pinkie defrosting

Can anyone give me an estimate on how long it takes a pinkie to defrost at room temperature of 80 degree fahrenheit? Assume that the pinkie is just placed in a plastic feeding area, not in water.

Hope this will help

Hey I hope this will help I live in Coral Springs Florida and was driving down to my grandparents in Miami which is an hour trip. I brought a bag of frozen pinkies to feed some of the snakes i have thier. I took them out of the freezer right before i left and i drove with the windows down the whole way. When i arrived at my grandparents house they were cold but not frozen. So an hour at about 80 left them cold. Hope this helps!

hiya :wavey:

an hour sounds about right, in that temperature it should thaw completely and not feel cold at its belly.

I'm no expert but that sounds logical :)

thank you

thanks

thanks to both of you. I wanted to be sure the pinkie was completely defrosted before I fed it to my snake I've named "Bobo." A fellow Floridian will get the meaning of the name. Last night I fed Bobo. It was the second time I've fed him. Bobo is only eight weeks old, he is an Okeetee from Kathym, and a hardy eater to say the least. Anyway, I placed the froken pinkie is a plastic bag and soaked the bag in very harm (not hot) tap water. The pinkie seemed to defrosted in five minutes. It took me another few min. to get bobo into his feeding chamber. Pig that he is, he focused immediately on the pinkie and devoured it. It took about 10 min. to swallow. He then scooted back into his hiding place for a nap. I was just concerned about the defrost time because someone had posted on the forum that if you don't properly defrost it will shock the snake. This info is a big help. Thanks.

Bobo

HAHA! Bobo is a perfect name for a fellow floridan snake lol. Im glad to see you got it worked out. I noticed you live in jensen beach. The first 12 years of my life were spent their ahh memories lol.

Corny in Coral Springs

Have you ever kept a corn snake outside in Florida? I am keeping Bobo in a 10 gallon tank on my patio which is completely covered by my roof. It gets absolutely no direct sunlight. This way he gets the benefit of Florida's temperatures and high humidity. I am little concerned about winter though. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on that.

Never done that

Ive never kept any of my corns outside to tell you the truth. I always thought it was just a little too hot only because these corns are captive bred and not exactly wild or used to the florida climate. If the snake seems healthy and has a nice place to hide thats a little cooler than the rest of the tank it should be fine. Let me know how it works out because if i could move some outside i may be able to actually use some of the closets in my house!! :)
