Plastic Tub

I was at wl-mart today, and saw a plastic tub that looked liek ti would make a good cage. Buying aquariums is getting expensive so I thought it was worth a shot. The container is about a 1 ft tall, and 4 feet long give or take. It has a top that snapped on tight, but i'll need to secure it around the center where it lifts up easily. The only thing i don't understand is how can I heat the container? I plan on cutting small holes in the top, and making it breathable if that makes sense). How do i heat it though? I figure using a uth is out of the question, so would a heat lamp work ok? and how can i gage heat in the plastic? Any help is appreciated.

id not only cut holes in the top, but along the sides 1 inch from the top. you can use a uth. i have a rack with plastic tubs and i use flexxwatt which is basic heat tape that gets the same temps with no issues

...Nope. A heatlamp would melt plastic more then a UTH.

I use a UTH on my BRB's tank(rubbermaid bin) and it works fine. the only thing is that you are going to have to drill millions of holes in your bin.

I only drilled 2 for my BRBs and its at 85%. so... have fun with a drill :)

just fyi, i drill 92 (1/16 inch) holes in my tubs that are 24 inches x 18 inches x 6 inches, so yes, have fun :)

A UTH would be fine. If you have it on a thermostat to regulate the temps, it won't get hot enough to burn the tub.

But a heat lamp? NO WAY! To give you an idea:I can touch a heated UTH with my bare hands. Not a heat lamp!
