Please help! Eggs stuck!

Hello!

Please I need some urgent advice. My 3 year old cornsnake just laid some infertile eggs a week and a half ago. I was out of town and my friend was taking care of her. However when I looked at her today, I realized that she had still a large lump near her tail. I think one of the eggs might be stuck. However I'm not sure if it has been stuck this entire time...or if these are a new set?

If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Another friend will be taking care of her for me since I will need to be going out of town again tomorrow for a couple weeks. If we can get any advice ASAP, I would be most grateful.

Thanks!

If she'll eat, offer her some small meals. I've had a few females retain a slug or 2 and then go on to push them out all by themselves after being fed a couple of meals. Sometimes they need some extra energy to help push it out.

Depending on your snakes personality (or snakonality if you wish!), a little bit of light exercise might be a good move. I put one of my keen swimmers in the tub for a few 20 min swimming sessions when she was retaining her last 2 bumps and that did the trick.

I believe in minimal intervention with a visit to the vet being a last resort. There are many things you can do at home to help. It might just be that leaving her alone for a day might do the trick too.

The key is knowing your snakes individual needs and tailoring the care accordingly.

Good luck!

I had one do the same thing and after two weeks I took drastic measures. You can try the swim etc but after a few days aspirating the egg is pointless as the contents of the egg have hardened.

I agree with a small meal for the snake to give her some energy back... also make sure she has water to drink.

I had to probe around the egg through her vent, which loosened up her bottom. I could see the egg and she was trying to push but it was too big and hard by that point. I punctured the egg and started gently digging the contents out (similar to a hard boiled egg). Once a large bulk of the contents were out she was able to pass the egg and has been GREAT ever since. I am hoping she does not try to double clutch!

I hope this all works out.
