plz help...health issue

Hello, today i got my baby cornsnake out for feeding as i do every saturday and i noticed something i never noticed before he has a bunch of black dots on the underside of his head and neck and then he would not eat and i am worried because he isnt even as round as a dime so i am afraid something is wrong so please give me some advise.

mites is a certain option.

Soak your snake in water to loosen the mites. There are other threads on this but I would change out that substrate and put on paper towels for now until you can determine if it is for sure mites. Also wash and disinfect everything you have in the viv.

ok it is for sure mites from what i have read. they are under his scales and in his water dish i even saw one crawling on him i am about to disinfect his cage and lay down paper towels and i am using lice treatment that i read off another thread so i will keep all of you posted and i hope he is ok i feel really bad this is my first snake and I have only had him for a month now.......so wish me luck:shrugs:

Don't feel bad about it, as he possibly already had them before you got him, and your doing the right thing for him now, by asking advice and treating him as soon as you spotted the problem.

Here is the link to the Nix treatment, or you can order some Prevent-a-mite. I've had excellent results with that.

They're most likely mites. First, if you have other snakes, then you may want to seperate the sick one from them (preferably in another room). Next, you can search this forum for the witch's brew of cures there are for mites.

To confirm the mites, post some pictures. I garuntee you that someone will come along and say that they are 100% mites.

If you'd read the rest of the thread i.e post #4 you'd have seen that the original poster had done some research and found out what was wrong and what to do!
Also members with experience of mites had already advised the original poster too!

If you have some valuable personal experience about ways of getting rid of mites then post it, if not let the experienced members deal with it.

Well, I did leave it to more experienced people by not suggesting any remedies, and instead saying search the forums. I find my post very valuable because If the snake is not quarintened (spelling) then mites could spread, and taking care of one case of it is probably bad enough. I have other post like this, after the OP has found an answer. My logic is this: If another member with the same problem searches the forum and finds this, then they will gain the knowledge that I posted, even if the OP already know what to do. Have you ever wondered how you learn on this forum? It's because you read posts that may or may not help the OP, but help you.
