I think you mean "Are corn snakes the slightest bit venomous?" Don't you? As one guy has pointed out on the Hot Herps Forum: "Poisonous, If you bite it, venomous, if it bites you. Based on that definition, corn snakes might be poisonous.
Hmmm.... Cant remember where I read this but corns do contain anti-coagelants in their saliva. i.e. if somethings bitten by one, then the bleeding may last longer as anti-coagelant stops blood from clotting properly. Whether this will prolong bleeding in a human is a different thing... When i've been bitten I always wash area with antibacterial soap, I reckon you'd be foolish not to.. Salmonella and all that. You cant be too careful in my opinion. Remember a corn is a wild animal, not like a dog or cat ;-)
Antibacteria soap should be avaiable in any pharmicy and store that sells soap, if you have soap made in amarica there. Look for Dial that is the best. They have been antibacteria for longer then I can remember.
Salmonella and all that. You cant be too careful in my opinion. Remember a corn is a wild animal, not like a dog or cat
LoL common misconception, but cats and dogs have many desises you can die from if you are succeptable to it. That is why it is not recomended to have animals when you have infants in the house.
I grew up all my life with animals and so has my daughter. I truely believe that which does not kill ya only makes you stronger...Well I believed that untill mothernature decided to make population controll throught the best and most fun way known.....
The point I made was that a dog/cat is domesticated, a snake is not, thus in my opinion more likely to take a nip or bite. You misunderstood. Reptiles DO carry salmonella, not every dog carries such diseases do they ?? (Apart from Rabies). Thats why I use antibacerial soap.
The stuffs called Carex, you can get it everywhere....
Alcohol based "cleansers" work much better...Alco-gel (ESU Reptile) or Purelle to name a couple....easier when you have a number of animals and don't have the time to keep washing your hands.
I dunno about that domestication bit...I've been bitten (not viciously, but more damage than a corn snake) and scratched a lot more by dogs and cats than by snakes...
I'm goin gwith Chaos on those alcohol gel cleansers, They are fast, they require no water and they're basically gelled alcohol so they'll kill anything!
As for bites, I've been harmed much more by dogs or cats than any snake.
"Reptiles DO carry salmonella, not every dog carries such diseases do they ??"
SOME reptiles carry salmonella, not all of them. More dogs carry hazardous diseases (more by percentage as well as by sheer number of animals) than do cornsnakes. This is especially true if the corns are cared for in a clean environment.
And cats? Well, cats are just too nasty to live in my estimation, but then I got a thing about cats being better suited for doorstops than for pets!
