Pooing in the water

Lavagirl

New member
I change Lavagirl's water every couple of days. Last night I saw that she had taken a big poo in her water dish. I washed it with hot soapy water, rinsed it, then rinsed it with a diluted bleach rinse, then rinsed it again and soaked it for a while in plain hot water since the dish is made of stone.

What's up with pooping in the water dish? Until now it's just been along the perimeter of the viv....

Tough to say. I think I've only ever had one instance of it, thank goodness. Just recently my amel stripe did it in his. It had to be the most disgusting thing I'd seen in a long, long time. Talk about Fear Factor material! Anyways, most of the time mine seem to stick to the perimeter of their tubs. Maybe it will just be an isolated incident for both of us!

EDIT: I just got to thinking that some people say putting their corns in water induces them to poop. Maybe he was taking a quick dip and just got the urge. :shrugs:

That's exactly it... the water relaxes muscles...
and it all flows downstream from there :D

One of my corns has done this. Its pretty gross. The water trick DOES work too. A sink full of lukewarm water does wonders for a backed up snake!

That explanation won't work in my case, she was just slithering over the water dish and expertly crapped in the dish alone...I was quite impressed with her accuracy...and yes it was quite disgusting. XD

what do you do? just drop him in? or let him crawl in?

I wouldn't do this with a corn unless they were a really laid-back one. I can't imagine trying it with a tiny little twitching hatchling. The only reason I learned about it in the first place was because when I first got my amel he had a bad shed and didn't get it all off. So I read on here that you could help the shed by soaking them in water. At first I just put him in the water by himself, but he hated it and tried to jump out. So I thought that he hated the idea of not being able to feel the bottom, so I put three paper towels in the water and he relaxed almost instantly. I was really just trying to get the old shed off. But then when he was wriggling around all of a sudden he stopped and lifted up his tail and ....poop! So I used the same technique once when he hadn't pooped for two whole weeks and it worked again... a lot! :puke01:
