pooping + feeding

Hi Guys,
Just as soon as I think, I have everything figured out, my snake changes the rules. I recently "went up" a size in food. No problem with that, down the hatch. Here's the question, I'm almost positive I read somewhere, that a snake's digestive system needs a break.

Now, instead of him, eating, sleeping for 1½ days, and pooping once a day for the next two days, He eats, sleeps as usual, and then poops once a day for three days, and counting. By his 'old' schedule, he would be fed tonight, but I'm thinking another couple of days, might be prudent? But I don't know.

He is a good eater, not acting any different in any other way. He's about 2 feet long.

Any ideas appreciated, I love this forum.

It's true that they need a while to get their stomach acids back in shape. I'm not sure when your snake last ate, but for one his age, you can feed every 5-7 days. There's no harm in keeping him waiting an extra two days (they can go much longer than that.. in the wild, they have to find their own food) Once he gets older, you can feed a little less often to prevent excess weight gain.

Heather,

Thank you for responding. Sorry, I should of said I fed him on the 12th, last Friday.

Thanks Again.

Snakes can go a long time without food so I agree with just waiting an extra 2 days until the digestive system is in order again.

Hope everything comes into a routine soon.

We've found that going up in size results in about the same amount of poos per meal. It just takes them longer to produce them.

When we fed our snakes on pinkies they would poo 2 days later like clockwork and then once more on day 3. Now that they eat fuzzies they seem to produce their first poo on day 4 or 5 and sometimes even 6 days later but still usually have 2 poos per meal.

Cheers,
Jason

my snake is a bit bigger than yours, about 2 1/2 ft, i wait until he poo's, and then wait a further 2-3days, then i feed him again, so if he don't poo, he don't get fed basicly, that way you know thay are ready for the next meal.

Hi Everybuddy,

I just wanted to thank everyone who responded. Guess my, "gut instinct", was right. Just wanted to be sure. Today, he seems to be relaxed, but hunting, not just "laid-up". Thanks again.
