Price Fixing

Hmm... If Darin's reserved in his opinions, Rich is the Walmart of snakes, and I'm a hybrid-hater/villainous price-fixer, then what does that make Clint? :)

If you can't handle an honest answer, don't ask the question.

If you posted a Goldwing on a motorcycle forum, asking how much it's worth, a bunch of people would tell you it's "worthless" because "it's a rice-burner."

If the people you choose to ride with are part of the "if it ain't made in America, it's crap" crowd, then the opinions of "it's worthless" are relevant... it's helpful to know that when you go hang out with your biker peers you might be laughed at and ridiculed for having a "rice burner." Even if its "fair market value" is tens of thousands of dollars, it may end up being worthless to you because of that.

By the same token, when someone asks what their snake is worth, many times it is a matter of "do you guys like it" more than anything else. A lot of people get involved in social gatherings with fellow hobbyists because the social aspect of it is what's important to them, rather than the "pocketbook" aspect.

IMO the fact that there is a very vocal crowd of anti-hybrid "snake nazis" out there is an important part of the answer for some people. That isn't where I find the value in a snake, but keep in mind that some people do, so it is probably useful information to know that an active "I hate hybrids" crowd is out there, even if many of us happen to disagree with them.

OK guys...if you read the other post that CAV posted a link to, you know that I am one of the "negative" people that oreo is referring to (even though he says this isn't directed towards anyone in particular).

spitfire asked what his snake was worth...I told him what he could probably get for it, etc., etc, etc.

I personally think I was very nice and informative in answering spitfire's question. If he had not wanted our opinions, he wouldn't have asked.

The next thing I know, oreo is ranting about me devaluing spitfire's snake. Where the HECK did that come from???

NEVER, and I mean NEVER have I devalued anyone's animals. And I definitely don't have anything against hybrids. I even have plenty of them myself (creams, jungles, etc). oreo, you've got to face the facts...there is a limit to what a snake is worth simply based on the supply and demand factor. That is not saying that the snake is worthless.

If you can get $45 for a snake that sells for $30 most every where else, then good for you. Most of us don't have that luxury. You know, that is one of the reasons I have moved away from having many normal snakes. I decided that I wanted to produce snakes that would sell for more than $20. I want my hobby to pay for itself.

One thing I don't understand, is why my reply bothered you so much. spitfire asked a question and I answered it...simple as that. Nothing was ever said that deserved this downgrading attitude you are displaying.

If someone comes here and askes what a particular morph or hybrid is worth, we should give them the range of value and why it is varialbe. Not just that it isnt worth something because someone replying doesnt like that particular specimen. Instead somebody comes here and askes and gets the answer I dont like and is led to believe that they made a bad choice and is discouraged from trying to develop a practice that makes this rewarding.

Of All the inane banter I've read on forums this is close to the top. All this has been about you being pissed because some people don't give price ranges when they answer a post about value. Well knock me over with a feather!
