Problem eater

venus

Dragon Princess
I have a baby snow, had him/her for about 1 month now. He has eaten 1 time since I got him. I cant get him to eat. Any suggestion would be helpful..All temps are good.

Sometimes snakes are shy eaters, you may want to try putting him in his feeding container with the pinky, and then putting the container in a warm dark room or even a dark cupboard. Try leaving him alone completely for about an hour (no peeking;)) and then check back on him. Hopefully then the pinky will be gone. You may have already tried this technique, but I thought I'd offer it, just in case. :)

Has he shed since you got him?
My hatchlings tend to shed once a month, like clockwork for about the first 4-6 months. I find it difficult to tell when my snow is on the blue.
just a thought.

Both great suggestions...Try doing what Katie said and if that doesn't work, let us know. From there we can go to plan B. :)

Oh yeah! And I almost forgot - make sure you wait at least 5 days between offering him food. Offering everyday may create an ingrained refusal response (I think there's a name for it, but I can't remember it) for that certain food item. Plus waiting the 5 days gives it a chance to work up an appetite. :)

As Howie said, let us know if you need ideas for a "Plan B"

When was the last time he ate anyways? Was it recently? Some of my 04's have been very picky as of late....One of them didn't eat for 16 days between him not being hungry and he was due for a shed...

?Last time it ate was the end of January. So it has been long past my liking. I tried what Katie suggested, did not work. I will wait to try again in another 5 days.

Yes, hopefully its just time for another shed...the time should be about right...:)

If that's not the problem, you could try putting paper in the viv and feeding in there. Two of my snakes were too nervous to eat in a seperate container, so I fed them in the viv until they got more calm. Both now eat in the feeder box like the others and I've put the aspen back in their houses. It took 4-6 feedings in the viv to get them comfortable enough with me to eat in a different spot.
