Progress of my first cornsnake breeding

HazAnga

Corn's + Garters
Hello all, I've been keeping snakes for a few years now and now that my Okeetee pair are ready I will be trying to breed them this year. They went into brumation December 11th.
Pre-Brumation Weights
Star - 401g
Harold - 439g

They Came out today (Feb 15th)
Post Brumation Weights
Star - 400g
Harold - 418g

Now for a question. Star only lost 1g the whole just over 2 months... and Harold lost 21g over that same time. They were in the same spot, no temp difference (different bins obviously) and other wise no different setting as the female. Why did Harold loose my weight over that time and is it any concern. Majority of the time the temps were within 50-55 F but in the beginning the temps were a bit warmer for a couple weeks maybe around 60 F.

Anyway I will be posting all progress of my first corn snake breeding right here, so stay tuned.

Well... I was able to feed Star twice and this last time she declined and reason being is she's now in blue!!! Some point this week she'll be shedding and then I'll be putting her and Harold together for some "alone time" :D I'm so excited!

Here is a tip. Often when the female has her spring shed, it gives off a lot of pheromones. You can intensify them by misting the enclosure(very lightly, do not soak) with a water. Also leave the shed in there with her when you introduce them. The pheromones often come off the shed too, and will drive your boy bananas :crazy01:

Hope it works out well. looking forward to your progress:)

Edit. Make sure to feed her up as much as possible, before she goes off feed. It will help a lot in her recovery afterwards...

@ Buzzard, I fed her as much as I could git her to eat before now. Waited a week after bringing her out, she ate. Then 6 days tried feeding her, refused. I think it was 8 or 9 days after she ate that I got her to eat again. And then this last time was because she was going into shed.
Thank you for the pointers about misting and keeping the shed in, etc.
Would it be better to take out a couple items in the tank before I put the male in with the female?

Well the female shed this evening, and i saw that once i got home from my aunt and uncles. So i took out a couple hides and introduced the male to her. I didn't see a successful connection with these 2 virgins but I shall try again tomorrow (or sunday). How often could you put them together and for how long should you leave them together. Should you leave them together till they become not interested in eachother anymore?
