Psycho Behavior

Quick question, Chara has been very nice not to flighty or bitey- then all of a sudden a few weeks before he shed last he was nuts. Flinging himself around when getting him out, scaring the crap out of himself literally, bonking the glass hissing, mouth open threat etc... he shed- full nose to tail tip including eye caps and he is back to being himself, calm easy to handle in general a nice boy.
(his temps have been very good, 73-75 cool 85-87 warm side no major fluctuations, he ate well, normal poop)

Now for the question- has anyone else experienced this, he is not a year old yet so I don't think the boy is a man as it were...not sure what caused such drastic behavior changes.
thanks,

If I understand correctly, his bad behavior was just prior to shed, then after shed his back to normal?

Snakes can become this way prior and during shed, they are uncomfortable and lose their sight during this process which causes behavior changes, in most cases its normal.

It's my personal opinion just based on my own snakes that they will go though a phase of craziness. Somewhere around a year old is when it starts with mine. I even had one lunge out and bite me in a very unfortunate place for a female. Luckily his little teeth didn't go through my shirt.

That sounds like something to really look forward to then *not*!

Note to self, make sure not to be wearing summer weather material when Leo gets to 1-ish ;)

If it was a few weeks before his shed, as stated, then it'd be a very visible sign to let you know he's going into shed.... and hitting the snake equivalent of terrible twos??

Thanks Guys,

It was really odd- I expect from all I read he would be cranky, hide- but wow- he was nuts! Glad to hear I'm not nuts- LOL on the lunge and bite- since my daughter and I are the handlers (hubby and son could care less about snakes) will have to keep that in mind. Not looking forward to big changes in personality, or if they happen hopefully he would go back to being his happy self!

Mostly it's just that they are overzealous feeders. It's all mouth and no pain. Nothing to worry about but it can be startling. It's not like they get "mean" or anything. It's just a pattern I have noticed with all of mine so far. lol just gives 'em character that's all.
