Purple Rat Snake?

Ok- so I guess I AM dating myself....explain "Gillan"!!! Actually he was pretty calm for me. When I asked more about him being testy they said they meant more jumpy. I asked if they'd been handling him with a snake hook and they said he wasn't that bad. They pulled him right out for me though and he seemed to really appreciate the attention! He held onto me and calmed down except for trying to crawl into my purse a couple of times. Once I put him into the enclosure at home I swear he almost said thank you! I haven't seen an aggressive stance from him just yet. He kept "peek a boo"ing me over the leaves....there's a pic below. He even came out to see me a few times last night up to the glass.

Aren't Texas Rats known to be uh...er... jerks? Even so, I guess there's always exceptions.

What's the black thing in the foreground? His hide? Looks like an old football helmet, which, for a large snake, would make a pretty cool hide!

Nice pick-up!

Unless I missed my mark, CaptBogart was talking about Ian Gillan; Lead Singer of the English band "Deep Purple".

I naturally assumed that's what he was referring to, but I've been wrong before. :)

Wow! He sure does look cool!

So I know you like making hides out of sports gear- the tennis balls were awesome- Just wondering though, how long did it take you to hollow out that bowling ball? :grin01:

hahaha I could see that

"No officer, I wasnt trying to steal the snake it wanted to come home in my purse with me."

The hide is actually a "play" helmet. I brought him home knowing I could find SOMETHING for him to hide in and drilled a doorknob sized hole in it. So I hate to disappoint, but this time it wasn't sports gear ;)

Coolest looking texas rat! Mine gets hints of purple in him every once in a while. It almost looks like bruising. However I have never seen anything like yours before.

Texas rats are known for being mean but if you raise on from a young age or even handle a captive bred adult a lot, they become quite interesting and pleasant pet snakes.

I've heard the same, but he seems to be pretty even-keeled. Now of course I only handled him at the store so far, but he hasn't shown any aggression. I have looked all over the internet for something that looks like him and just can't figure it out. I'm SO tempted to try to get him to breed with my female snow and see what comes out of it.
