PVC Caps & Deli Cups (Photo Request)

Although I was thinking of water dishes for the adult animals. (Sorry. I should've been more specific.) I've read that some people use sections of large PVC piping cut to height and insert disposable deli cups into the sections. It seems like a wonderful idea, but I'm not really sure about the specific sizes involved (PVC and deli cups).
I keep reading about 4" PVC piping/couplers/joiners/caps with 16oz deli cups inside. However, the 16oz deli cups are 4.5" in diameter. How does the math work?

I use 4" PVC vent caps (flat bottom) and the 8 oz. disposable water dishes from Superior Enterprise.
I get the VENT caps from the hardware store for $0.94 and have had to make several trips to get the 150+ of them that I have, since there usually isn't more than 15-20 of them on the shelf. The vent caps are different from the standard caps, because the standard caps are much thicker and have a rounded bottom as opposed to a flat one. I basically just use the vent caps as a holder for the 8 oz. Superior cups, which fit inside them perfectly, with just enough of a lip around the outside to make it easy to lift them out. Snakes can tip over the Superior cups very easily, but putting them inside the vent caps makes it nearly impossible. I wash and re-use the cups, even though they are "disposable". It's the best method I've found so far for the adults. I hope that helps.
