Is it okay to use cypress mulch??...I've been using this for a while now and seeing its not cedar or pine i thought it would be okay.

and btw, I'm new here. Hey everyone! :)

Welcome
I've heard of others using cypress mulch with success. I'm assuming you're using something other than what the garden centers sell?

yeah

yeah its a brand that my local pet store sells. I beleive its called Repti-bark...something like that. It says " 100% natural cypress mulch" on the bag. and since its made for reptiles i assumed it would be okay.

Just my take on Repti Bark, I used it for a while and found that it seemed a bit too dusty. The next time you change the bark, take a look at your hands and decide if you really want your snakes slithering through it. A lot of folks use the stuff with no problems, but since switching back to aspen, I have zero issues with shedding and health probs.JMO

Well...the thing is, i can't find any aspen at the pet store i go to. Do you know if they have it at petsmart or petco, or somewhere where i can purchase it at?

Petsmart has aspen, I've never been to a Petco, but I'm sure they would have it. Remember, not everything "works" for everybody. This "hobby" was founded and nurtured on trial and error. When I first started back in the seventies, I used corn cob bedding! (CRUCIFY HIM!) and never had an issue.
If you like the Repti-Bark and your snake doesn't burrow a lot, by all means use it. Trust me, if you're just starting out, you'll try everthing looking for the perfect substrate

Back in the 70's?!?!?! man.... lil Just Kidding mike!!!

Normally, pet shops like petco and petsmart keep their aspen in the small animals section, not in the reptiles section so check there. Being big corporate stores, they should have it.

Hi Zero !

Pet Supplies Plus carries the nice, shredded aspen. A little pricey but I usually pick up a big bag, not sure on size, but weighs maybe 25-30lbs. compressed for $19 or so.

They also sell smaller bags but the best value is the big bag if you have more than a couple corns (Grin). ;)

The Petco near me here in Michigan carries aspen too...but the quality of it is badly lacking. Big chunks of wood mixed in, long strings of wood fibre..a real mess.

well yes my snake like to burrow, ever since i got her, whenever i change the substrate she digs and makes little tunnels. but yeah thanks everyone i guess ill head to petsmart :)
