Question about local reptile shows

RedRaydin

Jason DeFreitas
Hey guys quick qeustion. I've had my one amel corn "Raydin" now almost three months. Got it as a four week hatchling. However, I haven't scheduled an apt with a vet yet to get it sexed and I was curious, can you normally take your corns to local reptile expo's in the area to have them sexed by vendors there? Will they charge you to find out as well? Also do they normally take credit cards at these things or just checks and cash? I've never been to one and I'm going tommorrow. I want to get a few things for my viv, possibly another snow (Miami Phase or Lavender), and look around for other cool herps. Anywayz, just was curious. If anyone was wondering, it's the reptile expo in Prince William County, Virginia at the fairgrounds in Manassas. It is 9am to 3pm and is $5.00 a person, children 6 and under free. If anyone else is going let me know, it would be cool to meet some people from the area that are into corns like me. Later guys. Thanks for the help in advance.

You normally can't bring outside animals into the show, but some vendors will sex animals for you that you have purchased from other vendors. Some charge & some do not. Some vendors are set up to take credit cards. Most vendors take cash and personal checks. Sometimes there are ATMs near by--it depends on where the show is held; not sure if a fairgrounds would have an ATM there but I am sure there'd be one within easy driving disatnce.

You may be able to find a vendor who will sex your animal in the parking lot if you are willing to leave your snake in the car for the time you will be at the show.

Have fun!!!

Hey man, thanks for the info. If it wasn't so cold in Northern Virginia this weekend I'd leave my corn in the car but there will not be enough heat. Especially since who knows how long we will be there. Damn, well I guess I will have to find a vet or see if any of the people at the show live nearby, maybe get a card from someone or something and I can take my corn to them. I dunno, I just have to ask around I guess. Well definately thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Rep worthy!

Shows usually won't let outside animals in because lots of people would bring stuff for sale and compete with vendors, but without paying for a table. So I can understand the reasons. But I have had people bring one for sexing in their pockets or handbags, and since they didn't take them out except to get sexed, nobody knew or complained. I never charge for sexing, but ask people to come when it is not too busy (not the first few hours of the show).

Unfortunately, I will not be at that show. But take a look at the free, downloadable sexing videos on my website. You may still not want to do it by yourself after that, but it should give you a good idea of how it is done.

If you bring only credit cards, you will limit your purchases to the bigger dealers or breeders who accept them. But if you bring cash, you can buy from anyone at the show. I am always surprised at how many buyers don't bring any cash and miss out on something they would like because that particular vendor can't accept credit cards.

Enjoy the show!

I went to one small show where only one vendor could tkake cards. Do you believe that he was nice enough to ring people up for other vendors? Herp people are great!

I always bring a bunch of cash (which I normally do NOT like carrying). That way I can set a limit for myself.

I'm only out in Ashburn. I'll be going to the Manassas show tomorrow with my dad. Most likely get there at the start and stay until 10:00ish. If you want to bring it I can try and sex it for you. Not sure what you'd do with your snake while you're in the show though. Maybe they'd hold it for you at the front table? Larry's a nice guy so it's possible. Let me know if you want to try and meet up!
