Question about quarantining across species

I'm new here. I've been lurking a while but only just signed up for an account. This weekend we might be getting a corn snake for my 10 yr old. We already have a BP, and want to be sure the BP remains safe from anything we might possibly introduce.

We WILL be quarantining, the only question is how long. I know general quarantine procedures, and it won't be hard since the corn is going to live in my daughter's bedroom, so it won't be very close to the BP. I think the only thing we need that we don't already have is another pair of feeding tongs.

My real question is how long do we need to wait before something like a photo with both of them in it would be ok? How long are corns usually quarantined? I know people quarantine BPs for up to 6 months, but I think that is because of the way IBD doesn't always show up immediately. Corns can't carry IBD can they?

I think that three months is pretty standard quarantine for CB colubrids.
Another pair of feeding tongs would be nice, but I think that you could probably do well enough with feeding the BP first and the corn second, and then washing the tongs really well in between feeding.

Now, Corns can't get/carry IBD, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you should put them together a whole lot. I haven't experienced this (and my corns live right next to my BPs), but I have heard that corns can get stressed out by larger snakes and go off feed. Again, hasn't happened with my snakes, but I've heard....

I generally quarantine mine around 3 months. Boas and pythons are quarantined 6 months unless I know exactly who I got them from and where they are from. Any import or wild caught animal, even if they've been in captivity for a while get quarantined at least 3 months depending upon where they came from and who had them. Cornsnakes can contract IBD although it appears to be less lethal, or they resist it better. I would not risk my collection just because they are colubrids.
