Hi snake lovers. I decoded to mess around with my thermostate. well in my room it says 85.6-86% and 46% humidity. In the rest of the house it says around 82... we have 2 airconditioners in the main part of the house. I was just wondering do I still need a UTH? Would it get the snake to hot? I know they need one hotter side and one cooler side. I have an UTH heater, but I was just curious. I am interested in gettin 2 snakes now instead of one. It will be a better deal on the shipping. So if I still need the UTH I will have to buy another one. Can a snake eat ok without them? :bang: . Thanks for givin me some advise.

Have you measured the temps in the tank? When the ambient temp of my room got into the low to mid 80's I shut all the heat sources off. If the whole room 82, for instance, then the snake's whole viv should be approx. that temp as well. I never noticed any problems when turning UTH's off in the summer. That is standard operating procedure for most folks in warmer climates.

If it gets cold where you live, you will eventually have to buy another UTH anyways...just food for thought.

Yes I have 2 spare 10 gallon tanks in my room. Alltho I am leaning towards the long rubbermaid containers. But yes they are the same temp. as my room. I have a UTH, but I didn't want to use it. If it caused the snake to get to hot. I don't have a snake yet..but I plan to have one soon. I also live in Illinois.

Well, then you must be good people :grin01: Vandalia's only about 45 minutes or so from my hometown.

I wouldn't worry about a UTH if your ambient temps are in the 80's. I would still measure the temps in the viv just to be on the sure side. Also, I wouldn't worry about keeping a warm and cool side during the summer months. When your room temperature is near 80, it's near impossible to have a cool side.
