Question for people with racks

I have not had a problem at all with escapees. The only time I did have a problem was when I was using lids that did not fit tightly. I still get my ease of use and no escapees.
:-offtopic From the looks of your avatar, I'd say that lid fits pretty tight.:grin01: I have to admit though, I'd read some of your previous posts and wonder, "what the heck is with a bottle cap in dirt?" Then finally I saw a little snow under the edge; it took me a while though. Cool Pic.

Back on topic, I built a rack to brumate my adults and that uses lidless 32 qt sterilite. I'm converting an old book case for hatchlings and will use Sterilite shoeboxes. I will be using lids for the little ones; at least until I improve my carpentry skills.

the one rack I have is for lidless tubs, and they fit nice and snug. It is constructed from HDPE (it's one heavy mother) and holds moisture real good...

I go lidless

I prefer the ease of opening the drawers and seeing the snakes. I don't like to hassle with the lids. Thats why I went with the racks in the first place. I leave only 1/16 inch of a gap between the top of the tub and the shelf above it. My adult snakes can't get out of that small a space. I also have a snug fitting screen door on the front of the rack so that a snake would still be contained if one ever DID manage to squeeze out of his/her tub.

However, with my hatchling racks, I make the containers a really snug fit and just melt airholes in the sides. I bet those little buggers could squeeze through some pretty small gaps.
