Question for those that also keep Ball Pythons.

Just a quick question about the vivs. Anyone know where I can find some pictures? 30 Gallon vivs seem small to me, maybe Im looking at the wrong vivs.

Any imput would be extremely helpful.
Thanks

A 30 gallon is plenty for a ball python under 2.5 feet. I'm not sure where exactly you'd be able to find pictures of vivariums, but I think I've seen some on different cage manufacturers websites. Ball pythons need higher humidity than corn snakes, and they shouldn't drop too far below 75*--even for brumation. Other than that, you can keep them pretty much the same as large corns. Hope that helps.

30 gallon minimum (40 gallons work much better), but larger is always better for an adult.

We keep ours in Reptariums which work well for us because our house is natrually warm and we help to keep the humidity up with plants and large water dishes. In addition when I notice them going blue I dunk them daily which helps. I definately agree that if you can go bigger than a 30 for an adult to do so - I believe Jonathan's cousin uses a 55 for his adult female. Just my .02

Do they need a taller viv? For some reason I was thinking that. (probably wrong). Any good books I could by to do some research?

Thanks

Hight really isnt too important as they are more terrestrial animals (evident by their body shape). Occasionally they will do a bit of climbing, but dont be suprised if they stay down low most of the time, especially as adults.

Some may stay low but that's not all the time. I have three adults in one viv (yes, I know - we won't start that debate) which is the equivalent of a 260 gallon aquarium and they have plants and vines and most of the time they're off of the ground - either on the plant pot, in the plant, or on the vines higher up. I've seen them climb to the very top which is 6' off the ground. Although they don't need the height (I have another that is in a flat viv) I think it's fun to watch them climb. If you're going with an aquarium I wouldn't worry about it. Just my .02

So they are like corns. Thats cool. I still have a TON more research to do before I make a final decision. I think they are just so beautiful. Do you guys by chance have pictures of your ball python Viv's? (Only if its not to much trouble)

Thanks!

I was wondering too if anyone could recommend where I could find a reputable breeder for future reference.

This is the one that I was talking about with our three in it. It now has vines near the top as well (they're gettin a bit heavy for the plants). Below is a pic of my 2005 girl Aurora in her viv. If you let us know where you are I might be able to help you with a breeder (at least in the Pittsburgh area).

I'm located in California. Shipping isn't a problem, I just want to make sure I can find a reputable breeder and someone that will stand by their animals. :D

What Morphs are you looking for? Joe Yakelis @ Hellfire reptiles or Paul Wyble are very respected & knowledgeable breeders.
