QUESTION ON HANDLING

Should I handle my snake only at night when it's active. Will I be disturbing it during the day while it's sleeping to handle it. Can this cause any problems. I really need to know

Yes you can absolutely handle you snake during the day with no problem, I pretty much only hold my snakes during the day. Although they "sleep" during the day, they are always alert for potential predators and do not need the normal sleep cycle like people.
Really the only way to stress their internal cycle is to keep a light on them 24/7.

We get Cheerio out at just about any time of day, doesn't seem to matter.
I think I totally surprised her once when I did it a little too quickly and quietly. It was one of the very few times I got an alarmed "s" shape from her and I got to hear her hiss. Make a little noise to announce yourself.

I too have only gotten the S a couple of times, in the first week i had rosie, but now she doesn't do it that much. I think most snakes in some way shape or form is always making an S shape though. Even when i watch her sprint up and down the hallway, it looks like an S. Good Question though man. Welcome.

oh BTW, i forgot to mention not only make yourself known, but it's good to let your snake see you visibly and then come from the side, and not from above or from behind. Be quick, and firm, but gentle. I like to pet my corn a little to let her know it's all good, and then i go to pick her up. I've only been doing the petting thing for a little over a week, but she's pretty tame now and doesn't try to run at all now.

mine rarely get defensive, but it' funny, when my dog comes near me some of them rattle the tip of their tale, it's strange I can grab them no problem but if they even see my dog that's all they focus on, but my dog is a great sport and does'nt get bothered either.

I also wanted to know if it's necessary to wash your hands after handling your corn snake every time you do handle it

yes, I wash my hands before and after handling any of my snakes.
I haven't heard of any real problems of people getting sick from not washing there hands, but they can rarely carry salmonella, and it's just better for snake and people to practice cleanliness.
