do u put something under the wood shavings in the tank???? have big tank as u can see u in above thread. wolud heat mat work one 1 side???and would u cover the whole tank in wood shavings???

Your tank is glass, yes? If so:

First lay newspaper at the bottom of the tank. Now cover the paper with aspen wood shavings, I usually lay the bedding about 2/3 inches deep. As for the heat mat, your heat mat should go underneath the tank, and cover around 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank. It's best to raise the tank slightly off the heat mat so there's some air circulation. Your heat mat should be connected to a thermostat to stop your tank overheating.

I no longer use glass tanks, but that's what I used to do and it worked very well.

well??

i have the tank on aerofoam stuff the white sheets when u brake them up they are like snow balls. carved out about an inch for the heat mat to fit in and put tank ontop????? is that rite?? or should i rase up the tank and stuck the heat mat to the shelf????

I've never used that under a tank but it doesn't sound terribly strong? :shrugs: I always found it simpler just to put little feet under the tank to lift it up slightly, and lay the mat on the table underneath (or whatever the tank sits on.)

I use a layer of paper toweling (with some going up along the sides).

1. It aids in the aspen removal on Full Clean-Up Day. I just grab the edges and lift out. (sort of like lining a baking pan with aluminum foil)

2. It helps me find any poop on Spot-Cleaning Day. I can see the urates stain on the paper toweling from the underside of the glass viv, so I know where to look.

Hi. If you have a glass tank, you can stick the mat right under the tank on the outside. And I usually have a layer of papertowel and a little bit of aspen (I don't like digging through the aspen to find my baby snakes ^.^)

If you stick it to the tank, please make sure that you have a thermostat on it, along with a therometer with a probe on the inside. UTH pads can easily get up to 106 (from personal experience).

Until my new thermostat comes in. I have the tank sitting on a couple of paperback books to keep it away from the UTH. I'm still having trouble keeping the temps consistent. I may try two books under each side to see if that will help
