Questions about caramel gene and miami phase

Sisuitl

I dig'em!
I was doing up some pairing plans for next year, and came upon this question:

Does a caramel/amber/butter snake in the miami phase have a colored background?

If I bred butters into a candycane line and then line bred that, would it be possible to get "butter candycanes"? Or rather, does the caramel gene infuse the ground color with yellow?

Just wondering if it would be possible to get a white ground color with the mustard yellow saddles, or if the yellow will always be present in the background. What actually sprang to mind when I tried to imagine it was a butter snow. :shrugs: Has anybody seen a snake with the caramel gene that had a silver background or really light to no yellow in the ground color?

Thanks for your time!

Anything's possible, I suppose. But I believe Miami phase is genetically a Normal. I've not heard of anyone playing with caramel genetics and Miami phase. Maybe someone "out there" is doing that and can contribute their knowledge.

Candy canes (seniors, please correct me if I'm way off-base) are selectively bred amels. So, butter-candy cane crosses probably wouldn't give you much "fun stuff" unless the candy cane is het for caramel.

otoh, fiddling with the selective breeding for butter snow sounds interesting. Go for it! :)

Actually, if you breed Caramel to Miami Phase, I suspect you will get a goodly proportion of the babies looking like decent Miami Phase.

I bred Candy Cane into Butter a while back and the Amels looked pretty close to Candy Canes. Matter of fact, I have some Butter offspring from that project this year. But they are too young yet for me to tell if there will be anything different looking about them.

Thanks Rich! I was trying to figure out if it would be a waste to breed my butter to my miami het amel/anery, maybe I'll give him a shot next year and start a new project. If it doesn't work out at least I might get some butter snows.
