Questions about feeding/shedding

Amadeus just had his first shedding(im like a proud mom, i showed my own mother it with a squeel, mother was not happy) and it came off almost completly, minus the head. But I noticed today there seems to be residue skin hanging off of him in small peices, and gently rubing my finger against it does nothing. Obviously im not going to pick at him, but is this a problem or is it normal?

Also he's about the size of a ruler, a bit more i would guess now, are small pinkies to small for him? I just fed him tuesday morning and theres no lump i can see in him. Should i get bigger pinkies?

Move up in prey size when there is no longer a noticeable bulge right after feeding. If the bulge is small (but still noticeable) you might try feeding two small pinkies a few times and then moving up to larger pinkies. Try to stick with the general rule of feeding prey items that are ~1.5 times the width of the widest part of the body.

Retained shed can be a problem, especially at the tip of the tail. If the tail tip is retained, it can restrict blood flow and the tip of the tail (not just the shed) will fall off. Try to let him run move through a damp paper towel or washcloth while you hold it in your hands. Once the retained shed gets moist it should come off as he slithers through the paper towel/cloth.

Sadly my camera is out of comission(meaning i broke the usb cable..>>;)

Thanks for the pinkie info, and the shed info, I ran him through a slightly damp warm cloth and while he didnt appreciate it, it looked like most of it came off.

One last question, buying substrate in bulk(it would be cheaper for me) is this bad or good? Bad in the sense that after i open it to get some out, initially it will stay open, so im scared about bacteria.
